Bryan Singer's Superman Returns Sequel Delayed for Mayor of Castro Street
July 3, 2007

Back in April news came out that there were two filmmakers (Gus Van Sant and Bryan Singer) "fighting" over whose movie would be made first, since they both are making one about Harvey Milk. Milk was the gay rights activist and San Francisco supervisor who was assassinated in 1978 along with then Mayor George Moscone; the film is based on his biography by Randy Shilts. Reports today come from Singer's producers who say that after the Tom Cruise-starring WWII film titled Valkyrie, his next project will be The Mayor of Castro Street, the film about Harvey Milk, instead of the expected Superman Returns sequel.
Although Brandon Routh confirmed that Superman: Man of Steel, as the sequel is being called, will eventually happen, it's just a long ways off.
"The next Superman, that's a ways off," claimed Meron, with Zadan adding. "Don't worry about it. Trust me. We may even start preproduction on Harvey Milk while he's on post production on the Tom Cruise movie."
Is this necessarily bad news? Maybe and maybe not. Although not everyone loved Superman Returns, most people are looking forward to a sequel, which could be by far better than the first. However, it could be good news considering with that much time an actual Justice League of America movie could start to come together, or so we hope.
Old rumors stated that Warner Brothers wanted the Superman Returns sequel to hit theaters by the summer of 2009, but at this rate, that's probably not too likely. Unless Singer works really fast and pushes out three massive movies by the summer of 2009, it's looking like the Superman Returns sequel may not hit until 2010.
