Sex and the City Movie Confirmed

Sex and the CityFinally after the rumors have been flying around since the popular HBO series ended in 2004, New Line Cinema has officially signed a deal to finance and distribute a film version of Sex and the City. Thankfully the full main cast is back, with Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon all reprising their roles and longtime executive producer Michael Patrick King directing a script he wrote. The film will kick into production starting this fall likely aiming for a 2008 release.

For those that have been following the series and the film closely, it was supposed to originally happen a few years ago but never came together because of salary concerns from Kim Cattrall. She wanted script control and a salary close to that of Parker, who was more highly paid than the others because she was co-executive producer of the series. Interestingly those issues have been smoothed out, which seems like an odd change for New Line Cinema, which is still in an argument arguement with director Peter Jackson and some of the actors over money issues regarding the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Those of you that are fans should definitely be happy, as this is somewhat of an exciting ending to a great TV series, just like the movie Serenity was for the "Firefly" series. As for the ending of the "Sex and the City" series forever, that may not be entirely final, but details are still hazy (or rather being kept private). However, this may put the final ending cap on what was an incredibly successful 6 season run on HBO.

this has gotta be one of the signs of the apocalypse. A movie based on this fucking show.. Seriously? It's bad enough they're doing re-runs of it, but I had at least found solace in the fact that it had ended back in '04. This is ridiculous.
