Ron Howard and Noah Baumbach Team Up on The Emperor's Children

Now here's a good film to look forward to! Filmmaker Noah Baumbach has written an adaptation of Claire Messud's 2006 novel titled The Emperor's Children which will be directed by Ron Howard. You may think the good news comes with Howard's name, and some of it does, but a lot also comes from Baumbach. The novel is about New York's "upper crust," and for those of you that have seen The Squid and the Whale, which was both written and directed by Baumbach, he's got quite a grasp on New York storytelling. Now it'll just be interesting to see what Howard does with Baumbach's script.
The Emperor's Children is about Ivy League graduates approaching their 30s with trepidation. The book won the New York Times Book Review Best Book of the Year award last year after its release. Producing partner Brian Grazer is also on board as well. Howard's busy schedule, which includes working on two other major films: Frost/Nixon and Angels & Demons, means we won't likely see this for quite some time unless he finds a way to squeeze it in before Angels & Demons (which is due out next December).
Let's say I'm looking forward to this quite a bit as is evident in the intro. I loved The Squid and the Whale and am really looking forward to more of Baumbach's scripts. Then throw in what sounds like an older story somewhat similar to The Emperor's Club, another one of my favorites, and you've got what seems like a true gem in the works. Only time will tell!

Why do I get the feeling that Bryce Howard will play the female lead (Marina Thwaite?) in this movie. She has recently hinted that she would like to do a movie with her father, but the only problem was finding an appropriate role and subject matter. Anyway, I dont expect this movie to be made for at least a couple of years due to Ron Howard's busy schedule (Frost/Nixon, Angels and Demons, Cache and a remake of Colossus: The Forbin Project).

Even though this article is about "TEC" I am very interested to hear that he is doing "Frost/Nixon" which must be a movie adaption of the play that won a few tony's this year. I thought the play looked super interesting. I only got to see spring awakening this year (which would make an interesting heart wrenching flick), but I'm still dying to see Frost/Nixon..I can't wait for that to come out.
