Watchmen Casting Officially Confirmed Early
July 25, 2007

Just a few days ago we posted a couple of extra Watchmen casting rumors and promised to deliver an update once they were confirmed at Comic-Con this week. However, a few days early (the Warner Brothers panel with director Zack Snyder doesn't take place until Friday morning), the Hollywood Reporter has confirmed the full cast list and in turn we're now presenting to you the official full Watchmen cast.
Set in an alternate America, Watchmen follows costumed hero Rorschach, who is living a vigilante lifestyle because most masked heroes have retired or been outlawed. While investigating a murder, Rorschach learns that a former masked-hero colleague has been killed, prompting him to begin investigating a possible conspiracy.
First up, the one everyone wants to know - Billy Crudup is Dr. Manhattan - a superpowered being with godlike powers and temperament.

Secondly, probably the next most recognizable character - Jackie Earle Haley is Rorschach - also known as Walter Kovacs, who ignores the ban on costumed vigilantes and dons the recognizable mask.

Next is another big one - Patrick Wilson is Nite-Owl - a crime-figher who uses technical wizardry and has an owl-shaped flying vehicle.

Next up - Malin Akerman is Silk Spectre / Laurie Jupiter - the girlfriend of Dr. Manhattan, but in a relationship that begins to fall apart as he becomes more disconnected from humanity.

Next up - Matthew Goode is Ozymandias / Adrian Veidt - a costumed adventurer who retired voluntarily, disclosed his identity and built a large fortune. He hatches a plot to avert a global catastrophe he believes will be caused by Dr. Manhattan.

Lastly - Jeffrey Dean Morgan is The Comedian - a cigar-chomping, gun-toting vigilante-turned-paramilitary agent.

The comic is credited for redefining the superhero genre and often is referred to as the "War and Peace" of comic books. It is a crime-conspiracy story that provided the first realistic look at the behind-the-heroics lives of superhero archetypes. "Watchmen" appeared as the only graphic novel on Time magazine's list of the 100 best novels since 1923.
Stay tuned for more updates and details from the Watchmen film from the Warner Brothers panel on Friday at Comic-Con 2007!

Absolutely perfect.

I completely agree. Even looking at the pictures of the character with the actor, it seems like the characters were inspired by the actors (physically, at least) and not the other way around. It just looks perfect.

I'm glad that Snyder's gone with some lower profile actors; hopefully they'll work a bit harder on their performances than someone like Tom Cruise or Jude Law might have. I can't wait to see some footage.

I'm just kind of pained by Rorschach. I mean, I'm definitely glad they didn't pick someone pretty, but there are plenty of younger guys who I think could do a better job.

[...] There was a bit of news that surfaced today, involving another part of the comic book and movie. Within the comic book itself, there is a parallel comic that takes place inside it, called The Tales of the Black Freighter. It was speculative whether or not this would be included in the film, as it was already pretty lengthy. According to Cinematical.com, this companion piece will be included, but only as a special DVD feature. It will be made in the form of an anime, with Gerard Butler (of King Leonidas fame) as the voice of the principal character. The cast of the actual movie can be found here at FirstShowing.net. [...]

Jeffry Dean Morgan does not look great as playing Veidt. I mean his face fits and all. But his body needs a bit more toning. He looks like a bulimic. He needs to be more buff to play the role of Ozymandias. I seen the costume that he was wearing. It has some fake abs… The actors from 300 worked intensely to become mega-buff. Why not Jeffry?
