We've talked at length before about all of the big WWII based movies hitting in 2008. The one being directed by Edward Zwick (of The Last Samurai and Blood Diamond) titled Defiance finally has a solid cast - and boy does it look pretty good. In addition to the previously announced Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber, Jamie Bell, Alexa Davalos and Tomas Arana have all joined the cast of this WWII drama.
The film revolves around Jewish brothers (Craig, Schreiber and Bell) living in Nazi-occupied Poland who escape into the Belarussian forest where they join Russian resistance fighters in battling the Nazis. Throughout the war, they build a village inside the forest and save the lives of more than 1,200 Jews. Zwick's screenplay is based on Nechama Tec's book "Defiance: The Bielski Partisans."
When in the right roles with the right directors, you can never go wrong with Liev Schreiber. And those of you who know Jamie Bell already know how great he is - he was the young deckhand named Jimmy in Peter Jackson's King Kong. Add those two together with Daniel Craig in a WWII drama from Ed Zwick and you've got a guaranteed hit in the making.

This should be a great movie where the Jews win in spite of the Nazis, Poles, Bellarussians, Russians and Cossacks.
