30 Days of Night's David Slade to Direct Gaiman's Neverwhere

Writer Neil Gaiman, who made multiple appearances at the San Diego Comic-Con last week, spoke recently with MTV and confirmed that another one of his stories is being adapted, this time by Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night director David Slade. The story is called Neverwhere, which was developed into a TV series in 1996 and into a novel as well.
The report comes from MTV, where Neil stated that they want him to polish up a script he wrote in 2000 of Neverwhere.
So Neil's getting a do-over, because he got a call from Lisa Henson (who helped make "MirrorMask") letting him know that Harvey Weinstein was interested. "They're using my script from 2000, and they want me to polish it up a bit," Neil told me. David Slade, who directed "Hard Candy" and "30 Days of Night," is aboard to helm it as well.
The setting of Neverwhere is in "London Below", a magic realm coexisting with the real London, and is about a guy who is quickly introduced to this realm where tribes of homeless people rome. You can read an introduction to the novel and the story further on Gaiman's website here. Contrary to popular belief, the novel was written after the TV series was adapted, although the original story idea was developed by Gaiman for the TV series.
I'm not too familiar with Neverwhere at all, but its David Slade who has my interest here. Hard Candy was an incredible low budget indie thriller and 30 Days of Night looks like it will really redefine the gory vampire genre, or let's hope.

Neverwhere was a great fun fantasy novel. Can't wait to see it on screen. BTW, when is some one going to get the balls to finally adapt Sandman?
