RKO Pictures Remaking Isle of the Dead

Back in June we brought you some interesting news that RKO Pictures would be remaking four of their classic horror movies: Jacques Tourneur's I Walked With a Zombie, Bedlam, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and a fourth unannounced one. Although it isn't clear whether this news today is connected with that four picture deal RKO struck with Twisted Pictures, they did announced that they are remaking the 1945 classic movie Isle of the Dead.
In the original 1945 film directed by Val Lewton, Karloff played a Greek military commander on an island where a plague breaks out. He orders the isle quarantined and as residents fall ill and die, some begin to suspect that a vampire-demon might be the cause of the deaths.
RKO Pictures has hired writers Brian Horiuchi and Matt Lazarus to adapt a remake of Boris Karloff cult film. The remake will be set against the backdrop of a viral outbreak in Afghanistan.
I'm not sure about the choice to set it in Afghanistan, but this does sound like something to look forward to. Cult film remakes (for the most part) are always good!

Cult Film Remakes are some of the worst films being made now-a-days. How can you say their good? Their remaking The Warriors using Bloods and Crips for God's sake, how can that be good? Only good remakes I've seen of late were King Kong and the "first" Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Remakes just spell trouble and dissapointment.
