Mike White Talks About Edgar Wright's Them

This isn't a lot of news, but it is enough to keep all the fans of Edgar Wright (director of Shaun of the Dead and this year's Hot Fuzz) excited. Edgar's next film titled just Them has been in the works for a while, but not too much is known and the film really hasn't moved past the scripting stage yet. Edgar's partner in crime, Mike White (who wrote the scripts for School of Rock and Nacho Libre) recently spoke with MTV about collaborating with Edgar on the script for Them - including some interesting plot details.

IMDb describes the plot simply as: One woman's journey to unmask the secret rulers of the world. Who are the secret rulers? Mike White answers that.

Their new script, "Them," is "a paranoid conspiracy movie/comedy," White recently told MTV News. "About who the secret rulers of the world."

And who are the secret rulers of the world? "They’re lizards!" enthused White.

Giant lizards?! No way, this sounds awesome! It's almost a high concept horror-comedy but in the hands of Edgar Wright that means pure brilliance. For once maybe he'll be given the appropriate budget he needs to make Them just downright amazing. Although White isn't so sure, saying, "Hopefully, [Universal] won't think we've lost our collective minds. It's the kind of movie that will take imagination on the studio's part." Most certainly true, but it's this kind of enthusiasm right here that will make the studio realize White and Wright know what they're doing.

As MTV points out, apparently there is a guy who actually believes that the world is "controlled by extraterrestrial, shape-shifting reptiles (in the guise of the Illuminati, themselves in the guise of leaders such as George W. Bush, Queen Elizabeth, etc)." His name is David Icke and he was one of the many people featured in Jon Ronson's book Them, which in essence this film is based off of.

I can say already that I'm definitely looking forward to this. Them sounds like the Super Mario Bros. movie combined with Men in Black and some other wacky horror and comedy films. Who wouldn't want to see giant lizards ruling earth?!

They are called reptilians. I was wondering when hollywood was going to start looking to Icke for new material. And I'm definitely not surprised its a comedy. His theories are so fantastic to people who really don't have any idea what is going on. Oh well, maybe it will get people to start looking into what Icke has been saying to over a decade now. I don't subscribe to the whole reptillian thing, but at least 80% of what he says/points out is undeniable fact if you just look at all.
