TIFF Day 2: Tired, Excited, and Catching Up
September 10, 2007
by Alex Billington
I finally started getting into the groove of things up here in Toronto - and that's a very good thing. After a rough Day 1 seeing just one movie (titled Young People Fucking), I ended up partying quite hard and not returning until very late Saturday night. Following that up today I hit the streets for some quality coverage and an attempt to catch up on my list of movies to see. Is it getting better? It is, slightly, and I'm starting to like it more while still dealing with my continued frustration over the press pass issue.
I'm working on churning out reviews for each and every movie within the next few days, so keep reading for all of those. In the meantime, here's my quick list of movies I've seen (that are playing at the fest - in order that I saw them) and a brief rating (subject to change) next to each one.
TIFF Films Seen:
Michael Clayton - 9/10
The Brave One - 8.5/10
In the Valley of Elah - 7/10
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward of Robert Ford - 9/10
Rendition - 7/10
Juno - 7.5/10
Young People Fucking - 9/10
Lust, Caution - 8/10
Diary of the Dead - 6/10
Lars and the Real Girl - 7.5/10
So far I would have to say my favorite is probably Michael Clayton. But secretly I didn't see that at the fest (it was pre-screened), so I'm trying to only think about films I've seen here and if I did that - it would have to be Young People Fucking.
Tomorrow I'm trying to catch up and see a whole bunch of movies: No Country for Old Men, Sukiyaki Western Django, Paranoid Park, Redacted, and Across the Universe. Stay tuned as the coverage will all really be kicking into gear now!

Ok….what do i believe here….
Diary of the Dead i heard is way better than a 6. You dont like those movies anyhow. Bias.
Thought Elah was gonna be better.
What the hell is Young People Fucking?
Too bad about Lars also…looked good.

Heckle,
Do you even know what "bias" means? Does Alex stand to gain something by the failure of that movie? Did the director personaly injure him in some way as to pre-dispose him against the film? If not… then it's not "bias".

Ok…so perhaps biased wasn't the proper word. I do know however that he isn't a fan of that type of film. He never has much good to say about them. Is that articulate enough?

Bias
a particular tendency or inclination, esp. one that prevents unprejudiced consideration of a question; prejudice.
