Southland Tales Fantastic Fest Screening Buzz

There are those of you who, like me, are definitely excited for Richard Kelly's Southland Tales no matter how mediocre the trailer looked. The film hits theaters officially starting on November 9th, but an early screening at the Fantastic Fest in Austin just occurred and reports are flooding in from a number of websites. Is it really going to be good or is it just a post-apocalyptic, confusing mess? If you're looking to hear the opinions and reviews this early on, then go ahead and dive in…
The original post about this comes from SlashFilm - so I've got to give them all the credit. They have the full list of reviews and quotes, and I'd suggest you head on over and read them there if you want to see all of them.
"Southland is also a dazzlingly smart, funny, and engaging work, one that fuses political fears with apocalyptic religiosity and techno-dread and wraps it all in a glossy, colorful package. Southland Tales is far from the mess it has been made out to be, a work that rewards as much as it challenges and succeeds in finding the human, emotional core lurking beneath all of its high concepts."

The reviews seem to get a bit more negative as they go on.
"The recut film may still be difficult to follow and occasionally difficult to enjoy, but audiences who are willing to pay close attention and focus on the world of the film for more than two hours are rewarded by something extraordinary."
-Cinematical
And some that are both positive and negative, highlighting both the good and bad sides.
"It's a challenging film for sure but its essentially 'Donnie Darko' on a global scale with a really engaging post 9-11 discussion. The only thing I really didn't care for in the film was the ending. Not sure if I'll warm up to it or something will occur on repeat viewings that might make it hold up better. Kelly's strong voice of cinema and the stellar ensemble acting make up for an often much more complex than perhaps it needs to be film."
-CinemaIsDope
This isn't looking as great as I was hoping, but I'll still remain optimistic. Given how much I'm already planning to like it, I'm sure I will either way. The buzz isn't exactly amazing, but rather just "good" saying that it's sometimes brilliant but mostly confusing. No matter what I'll be in theaters November 9th and I hope all of you will be, too.

Thank you for posting these. My faith is somewhat restored, and I am as excited as ever about this movie. I STILL DON'T APPROVE OF THE CAST, THOUGH.

I have been seeing a lot of negative reviews on this. I'm really hoping they are wrong because i've
been waiting so long for this movie.
