Martin Scorsese Also Tackling a George Harrison Documentary

First it's a very highly anticipated documentary on the Rolling Stones titled Shine A Light, and next it's a documentary on the Beatles' George Harrison! Oscar-winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese has been dabbling in the world of documentaries quite a bit recently. The currently untitled documentary will focus on the life of Beatles guitarist George Harrison and will likely include some involvement from Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr as well. The documentary is being developed as a theatrical release and given Scorsese's otherwise busy schedule, I think we can expect this in quite a few years.
"George Harrison's music and his search for spiritual meaning is a story that still resonates today and I'm looking forward to delving deeper," Scorsese said.
I'm glad to hear Scorsese is as big of a Beatles and George Harrison fan as I am! Thank goodness a director as incredibly talent as Martin Scorsese is making documentaries about some of the great musicians in history.
The Harrison family will supply materials from its extensive archives and interviews and early production will begin later this year, meaning it will take several years to complete. The doc will cover Harrison's Beatles career and later years that included a successful solo music career as well as a foray as a movie mogul when he backed Handmade Films and made pics such as Monty Python's Life of Brian and Time Bandits. It will also focus closely on the Eastern spiritual pursuits that were central to Harrison's life.
If you haven't already seen it, go watch the trailer for Shine A Light (click the link), Scorsese's upcoming documentary on the Rolling Stones. It won't be in theaters until April of next year, but if it's as good as everyone's expecting it to be, then I can only imagine how great this George Harrison documentary turn out, even if we don't get to see it until 2010.

That is exciting news! Even though he was the "quiet Beatle" George Harrison may have actually been the most interesting member of the band. It will definitely be worth the wait!

Can Scorsese PLEASE grow up -and STOP grinding-out stale fan documentaries
on already seen-to-death celebrities?
Let's face it -fan docs, remakes and run-o-the-mill studio slush have constituted
virtually the entire Scorsese since GODDFELLAS —decades ago.
-Guess that's what happens when you believe your own hype and never leave
the neighborhood.
"—Paging John Huston —Paging John Huston!"
AMEN
