Emmerich Explains Why He Hated Cameron's Fantastic Voyage Remake Script
Back in August we ran the news that Roland Emmerich would be remaking Fantastic Voyage, a 1966 sci-fi classic. Now remember, Emmerich is the guy who directed Independence Day, Godzilla, and The Day After Tomorrow, so it's safe to say he's your big summer blockbuster kind of guy. Now here's the funny part: Emmerich explains in a recent interview that James Cameron (The Abyss, Terminator 2, Titanic) sent him an initial script for the remake that he hated. And then he goes on to explain why. Now who do you think is the better filmmaker here? James Cameron or Roland Emmerich?
Worth Watching - Sept 26: PVC-1 Trailer - Life in One Shot

If you saw Children of Men early this year then you know how incredible single-shot scenes can be. There were numerous 10-15 minute single-shot scenes in Children of Men that just blew me away. Now Greek first time filmmaker Spiros Stathoulopoulos has made an entire 85 minute movie in one shot. PVC-1 is about a Colombian woman who is taken hostage by terrorists and has an explosive device attached to her neck. The film debuted at Cannes and has been getting a fairly positive response. I know I'll be certainly watching it if it ever makes it to a film festival near me. In the meantime, a trailer has debuted and it looks pretty thrilling.

Citizen Kane, Goodfellas, Hitchcock's Rope, Children of Men, and even this year's upcoming Atonement all have lengthy tracking shots. Will PVC-1 stand up to these cinematic greats?
Terminator 4 Updates - Aiming for 2009
Ever since the news hit about the Terminator series continuing, it has been rather quiet. Finally an update today comes from James Middleton, a producer on the TV series "The Sarah Connor Chronicles", who is also overseeing the development of Terminator 4. Middleton confirms via IGN that T4 is still happening and aiming to be in pre-production by this October for a 2009 release. The script is being written by Michael Ferris and John D. Brancato, who co-wrote Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, and that no director has been chosen yet.
Play On! Need A Break From Halo 3? Watch One Of These 5 Picks
For many people across the nation, yesterday was just your normal day. However, to many millions of gamers around the world, September 25th should've been a holiday. Why? Well September 25th was the day Halo 3 was released on the Xbox 360. And with that release comes hours upon hours of gaming. I know this for a fact, playing over seven hours on my first night and completing the campaign with a few friends. But what happens when you need a little break from your gaming experience? Do you sleep? Do you rest for an hour or two before playing again? What I suggest to you is this: put in a movie that will get you pumped and excited for more Halo! Here are five personal picks that I believe will get you ready for the full Halo experience.
Zack Snyder's Video Greeting from the Watchmen Set

Zack Snyder's adaptation of the legendary graphic novel Watchmen has just finished the first week of shooting and Zack himself has provided us with a greeting and introduction. As with 300 previously, Snyder will be providing constant updates and video diaries from the set while filming up in Vancouver, Canada. This is the first video diary and for all of you who are Watchmen fans, you can follow the film closely as it heads for a March 6th, 2009 release.
Are Anti-War Films Failing this Fall?

I came across an interesting discussion today over at Spout. The Sundance Audience Award winner, Grace is Gone, had its release date moved from October 5th to December 7th recently. Karina discusses a claim made by NY Post writer Lou Lumenick that states that "Harvey Weinstein may have bumped Grace in reaction to 'the soft opening numbers' of Paul Haggis' In the Valley of Elah." That leads her to the discussion of whether anti-war films are failing this fall and whether that's why The Weinstein Company actually moved Grace is Gone's release. I don't think that's the case, but looking at all the Iraq war films coming out soon, are they doomed to all fail?
What Neill Blomkamp's Halo Movie Looks Like - Halo: Arms Race Shorts!
In honor of the release of Halo 3 today, I thought I'd cater a bit to the masses who are currently crowded around their TVs and serve up some Halo media. All last year we kept bringing you details on the Halo movie that was aiming for a 2008 release until the studios backed out. If you might have forgotten, this project was under the wing of Peter Jackson (who is producing) and the most shocking news was when he announced that the very new filmmaker Neill Blomkamp would be directing. Although the film hasn't really moved forward, Microsoft and WETA Workshop went ahead and had Blomkamp create few digital shorts to market the game's release today. If you want to get a real sense of how the Halo movie might look, then you definitely want to watch these!
Dream Line-Up for Nelson Mandela Film The Human Factor

Here's another film with one of those dream line-ups, from the director to the actors. The project is an adaptation of the book by John Carlin titled "The Human Factor: Nelson Mandela and the Game that Changed the World." Warner Brothers is in talks to finance it and here's the line-up: Clint Eastwood eyeing it as director, Matt Damon in preliminary talks to play the captain of the Springboks, and Morgan Freeman already cast as Nelson Mandela. I can't really think of a more talented selection of individuals to make a movie about Nelson Mandela!
Paramount Confirms Transformers 2 for 2009!

I've been following SlashFilm's continued coverage of the debate over whether Michael Bay would be making Transformers 2 by 2009 or not. There is so much that is making the whole situation fuzzy, specifically the issue of time (it took 12 months from start to finish to make Transformers) and the impending strike next summer. Paramount has confirmed today (via BoxOfficeMojo and ComingSoon) that Transformers 2 has been set for release on June 29, 2009. This doesn't help the situation, in fact it makes it worse, but at least the studio is committed to a 2009 release.
Must Watch: Pathology Trailer with Milo Ventimiglia
We were first introduced to this trailer at Comic-Con but have since been quiet about it because I can't explain it without showing this to you! I think MGM and Lakeshore Entertainment really have something unique up their sleeves with Pathology, and once you see this trailer you'll realize that they do. It's a thriller about pathology students who are working at a morgue and as a game they try and figure out the perfect way to kill someone. It looks intense and disgusting and thrilling and exciting all rolled into one. "Heroes" star Milo Ventimiglia will be the entire hinge for how great this movie is and I've got a feeling he's going to deliver.
Southland Tales Fantastic Fest Screening Buzz
There are those of you who, like me, are definitely excited for Richard Kelly's Southland Tales no matter how mediocre the trailer looked. The film hits theaters officially starting on November 9th, but an early screening at the Fantastic Fest in Austin just occurred and reports are flooding in from a number of websites. Is it really going to be good or is it just a post-apocalyptic, confusing mess? If you're looking to hear the opinions and reviews this early on, then go ahead and dive in…
Denzel Washington and Tony Scott Remaking Pelham 1 2 3
You may remember late last year a film title Deja Vu with Denzel Washington. Following that up, Denzel is teaming up with director Tony Scott (The Last Boy Scout, Enemy of the State, Domino) for the fourth time after Deja Vu. The film is a remake of The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, which was a 1974 movie that starred Walter Matthau as a cop who must stop a hijacked subway car. The original film is referenced in pop culture quite a bit and is also one that Quentin Tarantino has apparently "borrowed" ideas from.
Jaq's Review: Resident Evil: Extinction
You know, I've tried to start this review half a dozen ways. I wanted to talk about the disjointed themes or the unfulfilled promise of revenge. I wanted to look critically at the lovely set design and the interesting acting decisions made by the principles. In the end though, all I can really say is that Resident Evil: Extinction is the cinematic equivalent of blue balls… and that's never good.
TIFF Best of the Fest: Actress Ellen Page

After screening 20 movies at a film festival you start to notice patterns: styles, production techniques, story trends, and even actors popping up in multiple movies. At the Toronto Film Festival this year there was one actress in particular who stood out in two of the fest's greatest, and certainly most unique, films: Juno and The Tracey Fragments. Her name: Ellen Page, the 20-year-old acting sensation who scared the living crap out of all men in Hard Candy and later stole the heart of Bobby "Iceman" Drake in X-Men 3 as Kitty Pryde. If there's any one actor who deserves to be mentioned out of everyone at the Toronto Film Fest, it's her.
Teeth Finally Being Released in November; Distribution Rights Sold

There are always a handful of films at the Sundance Film Fest that end with an endless amount of buzz. Teeth is definitely one of those that had both very positive reviews and great public buzz. In case you need a reminder, the film is about a girl who discovers she has vagina dentata - a toothed vagina. Yep, you heard me right, and this semi-comedic, semi-horrific coming of age story is an example of a great indie gem that can be enjoyed by all… who are mature enough to handle it. News from Fangoria confirms that it will be out in New York and Los Angeles on November 30th with an expansion wider later in mid-December.
