Crank 2 Buzz from Directors/Writers

One of my personal favorite off-the-wall films last year was definitely Crank. It was intense, it was action-packed, and it was fun as hell. Hopefully by now you've heard the buzz that a sequel, Crank 2, is already in the works, despite what happens to the main character at the end. Crank writers/directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor are currently out shooting their other film The Game, but the plans are to start shooting Crank 2 early next year. Still not excited? A recent interview with Mark and Brian spills some details and now it's starting to sound a whole lot better.
"Crank 2 will pick up exactly where Crank one ends," says Taylor. "It's a true sequel. Jason Statham will return. It's not a prequel, it's not his brother, it's not a dream sequence. He will [scrape himself off the floor]".
The British website Empire conducted the recent interview and it's certainly one worth talking about. As with any sequel like this, everyone's always wondering how or what, especially with Crank's ending. Will it be a prequel? Will it be a flashback? The answer is no, it will be a straight sequel. How, you ask?
"We're finding that a lot of people were thinking, 'Oh, Crank 2 can't be done'," adds Neveldine. "But we came up with an idea, we wrote the script, and after the studio read it they couldn’t believe that we pulled it off. And of course, the best test was giving it to Jason and Jason turned down every other project so he could do this, start this in the spring of next year. He was so excited, he couldn't believe it".
While no one will exactly know how or what until it hits theaters quite a while from now, it should still be something just as exciting. As with the first quote above, you can imagine picking it up exactly where we left off and how intense of a continuation that will be. As for the content - it's going to be more of everything that made the first one so damn good!
"It's going to be more sexual, more violent – more of everything," laughs Taylor. "We realise with a movie like Crank, you can't do a sequel and do 60% or 70% of what the original was. You have to go twice as hard. So that's what we’re going to do. If we're going to live up to the first one with the sequel – we're taking it WAY past the point of the first one."
Are you excited yet? You damn well should be! I already know Crank 2 is going to kick a whole lot of ass. Seeing how much ass Statham kicked in the first one and knowing that it's going to be way past that point the second time around is guaranteed excellence. Keep watch for coverage on Mark Neveldine's and Brian Taylors upcoming The Game as well as Crank 2 once they get around to filming it.
