Star Trek Casting: Chris Pine as Captain Kirk and Eric Bana as the Villain

Finally some major updates in regards to the casting on J.J. Abrams' upcoming Star Trek XI. Eric Bana as the movie's villain named Nero has been confirmed, but the casting on Captain Kirk has not. Reports state that Chris Pine (Just My Luck, Smokin' Aces) is "in talks" to star as Captain Kirk, but scheduling conflicts mean he's not confirmed. Paramount and Abrams are set on Pine, but he's got to choose between Star Trek or White Jazz. What does the line-up on the bridge of the USS Enterprise look like now?
Out of the primary cast aboard the Enterprise, we're still missing Bones, Scotty, and Sulu. It's starting to come together and damn is it starting to look good. Early on Matt Damon was rumored to be cast as Kirk, but obviously that was just a big rumor. Although Abrams had for a long time expressed interest in casting a major star in the role, it looks like Chris Pine is who he ended up with.

As for details on Eric Bana and his role as Nero, nothing has been stated. Not even a character description has been provided and all that's known is his name. The film is aiming to start production in November and go through March. If Chris Pine decides to take the other offer, Paramount will be ready, as they're already working on backup actors to fill his role.
How do you think this Star Trek coming along? I can tell you one thing for sure, they're trying to make this epic as hell. No Nemesis, this is all about a new cast, a new story, and getting every last person off their asses and in theaters to see in when it hits next December 25th, 2008. It's going to be epic and I know J.J. Abrams is going to deliver.

This is looking pretty damn good at the moment. The casting is interesting (I'm glad no big names, other than Bana, are mentioned at the moment; stars don't necessarily make or break a movie).
Xmas 2008 will definitely be something to look forward to :))

[...] Trek Reboot casting keeps flying out of the J.J. Abrams camp. Some dude is most likely going to be Kirk while the Incredible Hulk plays some random bad guy. And some chick is Uhura. And some Russian dude is all set to say “Nuclear Wessels.” [...]
