Seen Any of October's Movies? What Did You Think?
October 19, 2007
by Alex Billington
The month of October has already brought some of my favorite films of the year: Gone Baby Gone and Michael Clayton to name a few. Even last year, October was a big month - The Departed and The Prestige both hit. Today 30 Days of Night, Gone Baby Gone, and Things We Lost in the Fire hit theaters adding to an already enormous list of great movies this month. We're very curious to hear what your thoughts on each of these. What have you seen from October so far? Have any of the movies this month made your top list? What do you think of the movies that are getting lots of critical praise?

Just drop by, leave a comment, and create some discussion! We really want to hear your thoughts on: Across the Universe, Michael Clayton, Rendition, We Own the Night, Lars and the Real Girl, 30 Days of Night, Gone Baby Gone, Reservation Road, and anything else you've seen recently. To fuel the fire, I loved Gone Baby Gone and Michael Clayton a LOT. I enjoyed We Own the Night quite a bit, as well as 30 Days of Night, but not as much as the previous two.

Loved:
The Assassination of Jesse James (it opened on Oct 5 here in Calgary)
Liked/Enjoyed:
Accross the Universe (can't get the songs out of my head)
Michael Clayton (superb ending)
30 Days of Night (great vampire movie - brilliant cinematography)
Reservation Road (great acting, powerful story)
Rendition (powerful story, best ending of the year)
Elizabeth: The Golden Age (better then the original)
Decent/OK:
We Own the Night (great car chase scene, but kinda boring)
Still Need to See:
Lars and the Real Girl
Gone Baby Gone (tommorow)
Things We Lost in the Fire (tommorow)
The Darjeeling Limited
Saw IV (can't wait!)

Across the Universe - Best movie of the year? Nuff said.
Michael Clayton - Fantastic, and I agree with Jeff as it had a superb ending.
30 Days of Night is tomorrow for me.

Rendition-**1/2-OK, would have liked it to have some standpoint on the issue, because I think it would have had a more powerful ending. Reese was terrific and Oscar-worthy with how slow this year is going.
Michael Clayton-***-Great acting performances but other wise on par.
Across the Universe-***-Loved the music but too trippy for me.
Still need ot see:
Gone Baby Gone
Things we Lost in the Fire
Dan in Real Life
Saw IV
We Own the Night
Reservation Road
-But according to the reviews of each film, none have been too rave.

You can add Gone Baby Gone to my LOVED list, and Things We Lost in the Fire to my LIKED/ENJOYED list. Gone Baby Gone was amazing. A truly great film. Next up is Lust, Caution, The Darjeeling Limited, Saw VI, Lars and the Real Girl, and maybe some more…
