Marty Scorsese and Leo DiCaprio Teaming on Shutter Island Next Year

Did you enjoy Leonardo DiCaprio and director Martin Scorsese working together on The Departed last year? The two will be back working together again next year on a film titled Shutter Island, an adaptation of the Dennis Lehane novel of the same name. The script, written by Laeta Kalogridis (Alexander, Pathfinder, Cameron's Battle Angel), is what drew DiCaprio and Scorsese into this over numerous other projects that each were rumored to be involved in over the next few years. The concept and is much more darker and much more thrilling than Lehane's other adaptations, which seem like much more heart wrenching dramas than thrillers.
The drama is set in 1954, with DiCaprio in final talks to play U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels, who is investigating the disappearance of a murderess who escaped from a hospital for the criminally insane and is presumed to be hiding on the remote Shutter Island. Dennis Lehane's previous books that have been adapted into films include both 2003's Mystic River and this year's Gone Baby Gone.
Shutter Island will hopefully start production in March in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Nova Scotia.
After much discussion as to what projects Marty Scorsese would actually take on next and what would be queued up for many years to come, this is the one that got pushed to the head of the line. I guess if the script is that good that both of these two jumped on the project, then we must be in for a treat. It seems like Dennis Lehane's books always produce great movies!
