Woody Harrelson Joins Oliver Stone's Vietnam Drama Pinkville

You can add yet another war movie to the long list of other war movies in the works for 2008/2009. Titled Pinkville, this directed by Oliver Stone (Platoon, Alexander, World Trade Center) and has been amassing an impressive cast including Bruce Willis, Channing Tatum, Michael Pena, and now Woody Harrelson. Stone hasn't been doing too well in the last few years, with no big hitters since Any Given Sunday in 1999. Hopefully Pinkville is his return to form or at least a return to the days of Stone's other Vietnam flick Platoon from 1986.
Pinkville is a mystery drama based on the infamous 1968 My Lai Massacre, in which upward of 500 people, mostly women, children and the elderly, were killed by US soldiers. The massacre ended up being a turning point in the war. Bruce Willis will portray William R. Peers, the real-life Army general who investigated the incident. Channing Tatum Tatum will play Hugh Thompson Jr., an Army helicopter pilot who aided the villagers and later testified against the soldiers. Woody Harrelson will play Col. Henderson, the conflicted officer in charge of the task force that committed the massacre.
The script for the film was written by Mikko Alanne (Breaking Dawn, Voice of Dissent). The film is set to begin production next year under United Artists with MGM doing distribution. Although World Trade Center wasn't as big of a disaster as Alexander, this sounds like a project with a smaller budget and a better story. And I think that's what Oliver Stone needs to get back to making good films.
