Updates on Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead

Although yesterday was Halloween, that doesn't mean that we can't keep up some discussion about zombies! You're probably recovering from a hangover anyway, so we'll given you some worthwhile news to read over this morning. It was way back in March after 300 came out that Zack Snyder announced his return to the world of zombies with a film titled Army of the Dead. After quite a bit of silence, largely because Snyder has been working on and is currently filming Watchmen, we've got some updates and it's starting to sound better.
The updates come from Debbie Snyder, Zack's wife and producing partner, who confirmed that they still don't have a director (and that it won't be Zack) but are meeting with a few right now. The studio is happy with the final script, which was partially written by Joby Harold as well as Zack, and they're finally out to get a director and get moving on the film. As for a more thorough explanation of the plot, Debbie elaborates.
"Basically, something happened in Vegas and there was this huge outbreak of these zombies that were killing people," Deborah explains. "So to contain it they basically contain Vegas. The city is this wasteland with walls around it and all of these zombies are inside. One of our characters goes in there to investigate and gets trapped inside and her father goes in to search for her. He can't do it alone so he gets a group of mercenaries under the guise that there's money still in the casinos, because they don't care about his daughter. There's also a plotline of what's really going on - like, the containment isn't so contained and there are cover-ups. We think it's really fun. 'Dawn' was set in a mall and come on, Vegas is the perfect place to set a zombie film and you can have a lot of fun with that!"
Yes, Vegas is the perfect place to set a zombie film, that's why they did it in the rather awful Resident Evil: Extinction. However, I just have one of those feelings that this will be miles better than that. Debbie explains that the tone they're trying to go for is the more "fun" tone but not comical, a lot like Dawn of the Dead.
I'm still a bit skeptical on Army of the Dead, but that story above does sound pretty damn cool. I could imagine with the right director and a good budget this could be just as fun and just as entertaining as Snyder's Dawn of the Dead.
