Guillermo del Toro Writing and Directing Champions, Too
November 8, 2007

Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro is a busy man these days since Pan's Labyrinth's immense success. He's currently in Europe filming Hellboy II: The Golden Army and he's also got At the Mountains of Madness lined up next. Adding to that list is a sci-fi action film titled Champions that Guillermo will write, produce, and direct. I can't tell you how pleased I am to hear the words sci-fi, action, and Guillermo del Toro all together! No, Champions isn't a sports film at all, it's based on the 1968 British TV series of the same name.
Champions follows the adventures of a team of secret government agents who are rescued from a plane crash by an advanced civilization and given superhuman abilities. Created by Monty Berman and Dennis Spooner, the original series starred Stuart Damon, Alexandra Bastedo and William Gaunt and mixed adventure, humor and glamour into its plotlines. The film will be produced for United Artists, Tom Cruise's recently restarted distribution company.
I'm not going to claim that the TV series' original story is anything original or exciting, but I'm thinking Guillermo can craft this movie into something incredible. There's just something Guillermo brings to every movie, some stylistic touch. His writing is incredible and then he turns that into a beautiful vision on screen, something which hardly any other directors out there are capable of doing at the same level Guillermo does. Yet again, he continues to amaze me and he will solidly remain my favorite director working at the moment, alongside of Steven Soderbergh.

Man, does GDT ever sleep? Never mind HB2 or Mountains of Madness, I read about Champions here, then I go to the SciFi Channel's web site & find this:
"Is 3993 Del Toro's Next Film?
Sergio G. Sánchez, the Spanish writer who is penning the fantasy film 3993 for Guillermo del Toro to direct, told SCI FI Wire that the movie could be del Toro's next and will complete the trilogy he began with The Devil's Backbone and continued with the Oscar-winning Pan's Labyrinth."

Just to show my Level 70 Dorkitude, I thought it was going to be based on the Champions super hero RPG.
