Bond 22 Begins Filming on January 3rd
Is an introduction really necessary, because I want to get right down to it. I've been nagging to ask this question: can "they" really pull off filming a James Bond film from start to finish and complete all post-production and visual effects in less than 10 months time? I know some movies can (the Saw franchise, to name one), but Transformers took two to three entire years to complete. The Bond site MI6 reports that Bond 22 will begin filming on January 3rd, 2008. One reported scene that will be shot this week is in London at the Barbican, although Daniel Craig isn't in it. MI6 also ran some interesting quotes from director Marc Forster about the film and its direction.

Will Ferrell's Celebrity New Year's Resolutions
Remarkably it's already New Year's Eve and 2008 is right around the corner. This has been one of the quickest years ever, or at least so it feels. Will Ferrell presents a number of harshly videotaped resolutions from himself, Mila Kunis, James Franco, Sean Hayes, Fergie and more. Before you start writing your own New Year's Resolutions, fire this up and hear from all the celebs first.

Juno Almost Breaks Indie Box Office Records
You can look at the box office results from last weekend and easily see that National Treasure: Book of Secrets took the #1 spot, but that's nothing. There's another movie that isn't that high up on the chart yet is still performing extraordinarily - Juno. On Friday alone, December 28th, Juno made $3.285 million on 998 screens, a per-theater-average of $3,292. This total box office earnings for Juno have now reached $25.7 million. This incredibly impressive, nearly record breaking, for a lil' indie film from Jason Reitman.

Jimmy Fallon's The Year of Getting to Know Us Trailer
The year Jimmy Fallon turned dramatic. The Year of Getting to Know Us aka Rocket (as it's titled in the trailer) is about, as described by Sundance, a commitment-phobic man who reunites with his estranged, ailing father and comes to terms with his own childhood. This one of the many new films premiering at Sundance in a couple of weeks. It's got a fully loaded cast: Jimmy Fallon, Lucy Liu, Tom Arnold, Sharon Stone, but I'm still not sure what to make of it. I think Lucy Liu has been making some terrible decisions recently, and this might be another. I'll give it a chance (bad trailers make for good movies), but I'm not expecting anything extraordinary. Please let me know what you think of this trailer - I want to see if my initial opinion is "off" from everyone else's.

Sacha Baron Cohen Cast in Spielberg's Trial of the Chicago Seven
Sacha Baron Cohen aka Borat, Bruno, and now Signor Pirelli, has joined the cast of Steven Spielberg's The Trial of the Chicago Seven as Abbie Hoffman. The UK's Sunday Times reports that Cohen was "persuaded by Steven Spielberg to move from comedy to serious politics by playing a hippie opponent of the Vietnam war." Abbie Hoffman was the leader of the group of seven individuals who were charged with conspiracy and inciting the riot at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. A previous independent movie, Chicago 10, was the Sundance opening night film in 2007 and was a documentary on the riots and trial as well.

Don't Forget: There Will Be Blood Sneak Previews Tonight!
At the beginning of this week Paul Thomas Anderson promised everyone a Christmas present - sneak previews in 14 cities around the nation for his critically acclaimed There Will Be Blood. This film has been receiving countless "best movie of the year" accolades with more being counted each and every day. I can't wait to finally frickin' see this and have been anxiously awaiting that very moment when the lights will go down and PTA's epic will begin. My anticipation and excitement for this is about at the brim, and you'll definitely see me at the Landmark Mayan in Denver, Colorado if you happen to be at that showing (stop and say Hi!). For everyone else, here's the full list with ticket links for the 14 sneak peeks tomorrow night for There Will Be Blood.

Be Kind Rewind: How To Swede Video
The second biggest movie I'm looking forward to in January is Be Kind Rewind, which slides in very closely behind Cloverfield. I'm a huge Michel Gondry fan and have been looking forward to this since I first heard of the concept. Back in August we posted the official trailer and followed that up with some "sweded" fake trailers in late November. Today we present to you Michel Gondry's and Jack Black's How To Swede video presentation - a must watch on this very last Saturday before 2008!

He Directed That? 14 Directors Who Threw Us for a Loop
I recently stumbled across an article over at Daily Film Dose titled He Directed That?. It's actually a pretty fun concept - they look at 14 very well-known directors that each directed a movie you would have never expected. As they describe it: "Every once in a while a director will throw us for a loop and make a film that is inconsistent with his or her other work. Here’s a compilation that has been brewing in my head for a long time - a list of the most famous cinematic anomalies from great directors." There's some good names and good films mentioned here and it's worth a look, even just for a laugh or two.

Jaq's Review: Cassandra's Dream - A Nightmare of Choices
Maybe it's just me, but Woody Allen has been slightly obsessed with death recently. Specifically, death with accents. Like his last two films, his newest effort, Cassandra's Dream, concerns the moral and ethical choices we all face at some point in our lives. Namely, how far would you go to get what you want. And it takes place in London.

Cool Theater Displays: Wall-E and Indiana Jones 4
Everyone is familiar with those giant cardboard displays that movie theaters always place in their lobby. They range from a giant cardboard version of the poster to elaborate setups and fully 3D characters. Everyone remembers that awesome Silver Surfer diorama for Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer earlier this year, and The Simpsons Movie couch. A couple of recent displays have appeared in theaters just in time for the Holidays and are very impressive. The two we're pointing out today are: one for Pixar's Wall-E and a new one for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - both of which you've probably already seen in person. If not, here's your chance.

Cloverfield's Matt Reeves Amazed by the Star Trek Teaser Trailer
I typically hate talking about trailers that no one can see yet, because all that it does is just make you want to see it more - and everyone just gets frustrated at that. However, there is no other worthwhile news this week and this does get the blood pumping just imagining what J.J. Abrams is wildly cooking up with Star Trek. It was announced previously and now officially confirmed that the very first Star Trek teaser trailer will play in front of Cloverfield, the 1-18-08 monster movie. As for what exactly we'll see, some rumors have been floating around, but nothing is confirmed. However, Cloverfield director Matt Reeves spoke recently with MTV and gushed over how incredible it looks, even if you're a hardcore fan.
