Sound Off on Kimberly Peirce's Stop Loss
December 3, 2007
by Alex Billington
Back in October we posted the trailer for filmmaker Kimberly Peirce's (Boys Don't Cry) Stop Loss, an Iraq war drama about a soldier who refuses to return to battle after returning home to Texas. Paramount and Kimberly Peirce have setup a special "Sound Off" webpage where users can upload their own videos and interact and discuss them with each other. This is one of those few chances where a movie has a great impact on many people and in turn their feelings can be seen and heard online.
Kimberly Piece kicks off the thing with a video introduction of her own, which you can watch right here. I'd suggest that if you're interested and you support this movie or the cause that you head over there and check out the Sound Off page. It's not every day that you get the chance to talk with a real filmmaker and voice your opinion on important matters.
Decorated Iraq war hero Sgt. Brandon King makes a celebrated return to his small Texas hometown following his tour of duty. Brandon tries to resume the life he left behind with the help and support of his family and his best friend, Steve Shriver, who served with him in Iraq. Alongside their war-time buddies, Brandon and Steve try to make peace with civilian life. Then, against Brandon's will, the Army orders him back to duty in Iraq. This upends Brandon's entire world. The conflict into which he is thrown tests everything he believes in: the bond of family, the loyalty of friendship, the limits of love, and the value of honor.
Don't forget to watch the trailer right here if you haven't seen it already. This actually looks pretty good and hopefully the Sound Off will have an impact as well.
Stop Loss is directed and co-written by Kimberly Peirce, of 1999's Oscar-winning Boys Don't Cry, her only major directing credit. The film stars Ryan Phillippe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Channing Tatum, Timothy Olyphant, and Abbie Cornish. Stop Loss hits theaters next March 28th, 2008.
