First Mamma Mia! Teaser Trailer

After Hairspray's success this summer both in the box office and with critics (and myself!), the latest cheery Broadway musical to be adapted for the big screen is Mamma Mia! The show first premiered in 1999 and arrived on Broadway in 2001 and will now open in theaters July of 2008. It's opening up the same day as The Dark Knight, so Batman fans take a good look - you'll be watching this when you can't get your tickets for Dark Knight. And if I were Sophie trying to figure out which one was my dad, it wouldn't even be a challenge - I'd just choose Pierce Brosnan, aka ex-James Bond, to be my dad, I mean come on!

Mamma Mia! is directed by Phyllida Lloyd (Gloriana on TV) and written for the screen by TV writer Catherine Johnson. The movie arrives in theaters next summer on July 18th, 2008.

WOW! That looks really bad, I loved the Broadway play but, ugh, hopefully the full trailer will be better. And was that the girl from 'Mean Girls'???

Doesn't look any different than any other movie musical these past few years. I think it looks cute and fun. And how great/young does Meryl Streep look? She's looked twice her age in the last few movies.
