Cloverfield's Matt Reeves Amazed by the Star Trek Teaser Trailer

I typically hate talking about trailers that no one can see yet, because all that it does is just make you want to see it more - and everyone just gets frustrated at that. However, there is no other worthwhile news this week and this does get the blood pumping just imagining what J.J. Abrams is wildly cooking up with Star Trek. It was announced previously and now officially confirmed that the very first Star Trek teaser trailer will play in front of Cloverfield, the 1-18-08 monster movie. As for what exactly we'll see, some rumors have been floating around, but nothing is confirmed. However, Cloverfield director Matt Reeves spoke recently with MTV and gushed over how incredible it looks, even if you're a hardcore fan.
"I've just recently seen bits of the teaser. I think it's amazing, and it looks pretty incredible."
Matt Reeves, a long-time friend of J.J. Abrams and fan of Star Trek, commented at length about the new Star Trek teaser trailer, which he's already seen.
"I think people are going to be very excited," he said, offering a sneak preview. "It's a teaser, you know, it's a teaser trailer. But still, I was like 'Wow!' Just the scope of it, the scale of it, you just look at it and it's so elegantly done."
But what about the fans? I think one of the biggest worries at the moment with J.J. Abrams' Star Trek is that although it will be a big mainstream film, it will be too much of a fresh start that will attract new fans and forget about or even alienate the original, hardcore fans. The early buzz is that it's such a new introduction and refreshed look at the Star Trek franchise that it'll almost be a bore for all the original fans, because they "know all this." But Reeves confirms that isn't the case - saying that what J.J. Abrams is doing is pretty amazing, for fans and non-fans alike.
"I think what [he and his producers] are doing with the trailer is fantastic; this is a great way to reboot the franchise, and get people excited about something new."
"That's what excited me about seeing the trailer, was that I thought 'Well, this does look completely different and new,'" he marveled. "But while having all the stuff that will make fans of 'Star Trek' still feel fulfilled."
Star Trek will arrive in theaters on December 25th, 2008. The cast includes Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Eric Bana, Winona Ryder, and Rachel Nichols. Until we actually see this trailer and some real footage, the best we've got is Matt Reeves' word - and based on that I'm alone I'm starting to get interested, too.
"He's doing an amazing job; it's very exciting. It's not your grandfather's 'Star Trek,' that's for sure."
I'm excited, I can certainly say that for sure! This December isn't even over and I'm looking forward to December of 2008, when Star Trek will finally hit theaters. Check back again in mid-January when the Star Trek trailer launches - we'll be the first to bring you the trailer right here on FS.net!
