Compliments to The Movie Blog - The Lives of Film Bloggers
by Alex Billington
August 17, 2007
Contrary to what you may think, the lives of full time writers and site owners like myself aren't exactly the easiest. We do enjoy meeting celebrities and screening movies early, but there's plenty of tough work and problems that we encounter. John Campea, who runs The Movie Blog, wrote up a piece recently titled What TMB Is - The Hard Parts - Failures. He takes a look at the "hard parts" of running The Movie Blog and all that he's encountered recently, which is quite a bit. The reason why I'm mentioning it here is because he throws out a very nice mention to us at the end of the post in his final thoughts.
For the sake of what I'm writing about here, I'll jump to the end of John's article and quote what he said.
So here's a final thought: Doing what we (online movie guys) do isn't as easy as it looks. Yes, we love it, but it comes at a price, it comes with some frustration, it comes with some failure and it comes with some embarrassment. So I encourage you all... honestly... if you read Peter over at SlashFilm, or Alex at FirstShowing, Vic at Screenrant, Josh at Cinemablend, Neil at Film School Rejects, Robert at IESB, Andrew at Movie Patron, Marina at Mad About Movies... yadda yadda yadda.... seriously stop for a second, drop them a note and just give them kudos for what they do. They bring a voice to the online community, they facilitate discussion, they entertain, inform and spark great debate.... often at the cost of hard work, pain in the ass studios, asshole readers or even other websites who attack them publicly, and expose themselves to public failure all the time.
I've got to give my compliments and thanks to John for mentioning me in such a heartfelt response. It means a lot to me and everyone at FS.net to not only be mentioned along with the other great sites in that list, but simply to be given that much credit. I absolutely love what I do every single day and wouldn't change it for anything, and he's right about how much crap we have to go through yet still come out with a smile.
I'm sure by now anyone reading this doesn't care how much either John or I ramble on about how much of a pain it is to sometimes work in this industry, you just want to read more news and hype and that's what I'll provide. Thank to all of you who've always supported us and the many movie sites on the internet - you really mean the most to us.
