Hong Kong Martial Arts Movie Enter the Phoenix Being Remade
Just like the team behind Pirates of the Caribbean, everybody is anxious to see what they'll be working on next, since they bring so much to a film and franchise. This time it's the Bourne team, which has the third installment, The Bourne Ultimatum, hitting theaters this August. Producer Andrew R. Tennenbaum, who's been a part of all three, will next produce a remake of the Hong Kong action comedy Enter the Phoenix. The film, only from 2004, comes from Jackie Chan's production company JCE Entertainment, and is a martial arts comedy from Hong Kong about an imposter from a rival gang who is sent from Thailand to take over the family business.
Although the remake doesn't have a director or even a screenwriter yet, it's an interesting choice for a remake. If done right, it could have a wider appeal, like Kung Fu Hustle or Fearless, but that's if they really pull it together. Beyond that, I'm not really sure if this idea could stick well, since it seems like interest in martial arts movies is somewhat dying. But, is this the first time a Jackie Chan movie is being remade? Even though Chan only has a cameo, does it mean we may see the likes of his other movies such as Rumble in the Bronx coming next?
