Marvel's Kevin Feige Updates LOTS of Future Projects
As just mentioned in the Captain America announcement, this week is full of comic book movie news, a bit of foreshadowing of what's to come once we hit Comic-Con in late July. Marvel's President of Production, Kevin Feige, gave lots of updates on future projects at a press conference, including Spider-Man 4, Wolverine, Ghost Rider 2, The Punisher 2, Sub-Mariner, Avengers, and Marvel Zombies. Interested? You should be - read on!
"I think they'll be announcing a director in the near future and another star in the near future. The only reason I have any interest in doing another 'Punisher' movie is to do a better 'Punisher' movie. And if Marvel felt we wouldn't be able to do that, we wouldn't make it. We have a director, we'd like to announce an actor and a director together."
This was mentioned last year, but a good update stating that it is going to get under way quite soon.
"Jonathan Mostow is doing a rewrite on [Self's] script with the intention to direct and that script should be coming in a few weeks."
Another solid and exciting update, but still quite a few years out from seeing it.
"What was preventing certain characters from crossing over in the past is they were all divvied up for different studios with gates between them and they couldn't play in the same sandbox. Now we have Hulk, and Thor and Captain and Iron Man and Ant Man… it would certainly indicate to me that it might be fun to see them all in the sandbox at one point. But certainly we're introducing them and building them in their own franchises first."
The question asked was if there was any chance we'd see it?
"'Marvel Zombies' would be pretty cool," said Feige, who added that he'd also love to "put a 'Power Pack' script into development, I'd love to do a PG sort've 'Goonies'-style, those films I love as a kid in the '80s growing up. I'd love to do something like that with 'Power Pack."
Although it's only worth mentioning, there's nothing new regarding Spider-Man 4 just yet.
"Marvel's thoughts are that we couldn't be happier with the success of Spider-Man 3 and it's the top grossing, or will be the top grossing Spider-Man of all time so there definitely will be another Spider-Man adventure. I don't know how, what that will take … the discussions with Sony are just beginning as they are still promoting it in some parts of the world…"
Besides mentioning that Wolverine would arrive first before Magneto, the updates for Wolverine weren't very exciting either.
"We have not signed a director yet, Fox has not signed a director yet… there's a lot of people in the mix. It's hard, I think it's very close."
Ghost Rider 2
Another bland update. Nothing to report yet, besides promotion for the DVD which is due out pretty soon.
I'll tell you, this guy knows how to hype up Marvel's projects well. I'm looking forward to one hell of a great decade of Marvel movies!
