Ivana BaqueroThat incredible young actress, Ivana Baquero, the star of Guillermo del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth, has finally been recognized for her stunning talent and has been cast in an English-language film titled The New Daughter. My only concern is it's a nothing horror film, but let's hope she can bring something unique and refreshing to the movie. The film is based on a short story that follows a single dad who has moved his two children to a remote farm where a strange mound in the surrounding fields appears to be the key to his daughter's (played by Baquero) increasingly ominous behavior. Sounds like a combination of The Messengers, Signs, and the X-Files movie all in one.

The script was written by first time writer John Travis and the short story it's based on was written initially by John Connolly, known for a number of bestselling horror-thriller novels including The Unquiet, The Black Angel, Every Dead Thing, etc. It's currently looking for a director and aiming for a 2009 release. As I said initially, with Baquero on board, let's hope that means something good.
