Progress on Rainn Wilson's Girlfriend Experience
by Alex Billington
April 25, 2007
After the incredible success of the TV show The Office, Rainn Wilson has quickly worked his way up the comedy ladders on the big screen, with a role in My Super Ex-Girlfriend as well as a not-so-comedic role in The Last Mimzy. His latest big screen film offering comes in the form of a comedy titled Girlfriend Experience being made by DreamWorks, and it sounds like it should deliver quite a fun time.
The film will be produced by long-time comedy producers Ivan Reitman (Kindergarten Cop, Old School) and Tom Pollock (EuroTrip, Old School), and will be written by cousins Mark and Brian Gunn, who recently just wrote a Mighty Mouse script for Nickelodeon Films. Apparently Rainn approached these guys with his idea after reading a script for a movie called Juvie that was meant for Steve Carell about a man sentenced to a prison for juveniles - which sounds just as interesting.
The idea of the actual movie is from Rainn Wilson himself, and is about a lonely geek (of course played by Wilson) who, in an effort to make himself seem more desirable, hires a prostitute to pretend she's his girlfriend. No word on a director yet, but for comedies that's not always the deciding factor (but is important). We'll keep you updated on this as the project develops, as it sounds like it'll be something to keep an eye out for!
