ShowEast: What Do You Want to Hear About?
by Alex Billington
October 9, 2007
Starting next Monday I'll be in Orlando, Florida attending the industry convention ShowEast. Unfortunately there isn't that much to cover and I'm not allowed to report on the screenings (which include Enchanted, Atonement, Run Fatboy Run, Juno, P.S. I Love You, Grace is Gone, The Mist, and The Great Debaters). However, I'm wondering if there is something you guys, our readers, would be interested in hearing about. I want to continue with our theatrical focus and ShowEast is entirely about movie theaters. It's a convention for movie theater owners, managers, and the movie studios' departments that work with the movie theaters on all things from marketing to distribution. So which of these seminars should I make sure to attend and report back on?
These seminars will take place at the conference sometime between Monday and Wednesday. I'll do my best to report back on statements said as well as anything exciting and my thoughts on what's presented. I'll attend as many as I can, but if there is one more than the other you want to hear about, let me know in the comments below.
"The Power of the Internet As a Marketing Tool"
Presenting: Martha Cavalheiro, Fox Marketing Vice President, Latin America; Miguel Mier, Director of Operations of Cinépolis; Victor Kong, VP and Managing Director of MySpace Latin America
"Digital Cinema—Implementation Challenges"
(Topics of discussion will include The Advent of 3D, Key Delivery Infrastructure, Cost-of-Ownership Challenges, Captioning, Compliance and Security)
Presenting: Michael Karagosian, President MKPE Consulting LLC and NATO Digital Cinema Consultant
"Now Showing: Alternative Content in Your Theatre"
Presenting: Kurt Hall, President and CEO of National CineMedia; Julie Borchard-Young, Director of Worldwide HD Distribution, The Metropolitan Opera; Jonathan Dern, Co-President of The Bigger Picture; Evan Saxon, Co-President of D & E Entertainment; Darryl Schaffer, Executive Vice President of Exhibitor Relations at Screenvision
"The Future of 3D in the Digital Age"
Jeffrey Katzenberg, DreamWorks Animation; John Fithian, President & CEO of NATO; Chris Johnson, Vice President of Classic Cinemas
On top of all of those I'll report back on what I can and what I'm allowed to from ShowEast. If there is anything big and important that comes up, I'll do my best to let you know about it. Besides that I'm out there to work on some connections and build up some future event plans. Otherwise expect a regular week of news updates, content, and coverage on FS.net.
