What's with the vampire genre coming back from the dead (pun intended). You've got 30 Days of Night, a comic book vampire movie, as well as I Am Legend, the big budget Will Smith action flick, both vampire movies on their way this year. The latest to add to this lineup is a film called Daybreakers directed by Michael and Peter Spierig (2003's Undead). The best part is that both Willem Dafoe and Ethan Hawke have been cast as duelling vampires!
The film's lead Ethan Hawke spoke on it, explaining a bit more about its plot.
"I'm going to make a vampire picture and I'm going to chew on some necks. Willem Dafoe and I are duelling vampires. It's a vampire movie set way in the future where everyone is a vampire and we're all eating our own resources, so we're trying to get off on foreign humans. We're trying to get off of trying to create blood substitutes. It's a big analogy about what's going on now. It's really dark and weird and everybody's sucking each other's blood."
And if you need even more, here's the plot synopsis from IMDb: "In the year 2017, a plague has transformed most every human into vampires. Faced with a dwindling blood supply, the dominant plots their survival; meanwhile, a researcher (Hawke) works with a covert band of vamps on a way to save the human race."
Hawke and Dafoe also join Sam Neill in the film. No release date is officially set besides sometime in 2008, probably earlier in the year.
