Rumor: Xavier Gens Directing Conan?
January 2, 2008

The topic of Hitman is a sore subject for quite a few people. A couple of us, myself included, loved the movie, while plenty of others thought it was pure crap. The reason why I mention it is because the director, Xavier Gens, is rumored to be directing Conan next. Yep, Conan the Barbarian is back, but this time Arnold Schwarzenegger will NOT be swinging the sword. Although an actor hasn't officially been announced, even though Gerard Butler was rumored to be in the runnings, French director Xavier Gens tells Le Film Francais that he may be directing.
This movie has really confused me. We're all well aware of the He-Man and Thundercats movies, but Conan just came out of left field. The first time I had ever heard of it was when a poster for the film appeared at the American Film Market. Since then I've heard nothing until now. As much as I enjoyed Hitman and Xavier Gens' work, I really cannot see him directing Conan. It's just not his style at all! Conan is more of a period piece that requires elements of fantasy and action, whereas what Gens can do is produced more stylized, futuristic action.
This new version of Conan the Barbarian will apparently be more faithful to Robert E. Howard's original creation than the Arnold Schwarzenegger films. The only other information available is that it's supposed to be out by 2009, but other than that this film is hiding in the dark. It isn't even listed on IMDb yet! We'll keep you updated once we hear more and if this rumor turns out to be true.

Ooh, I'm excited about this one. Don't know about the director, but I loved the Hitman soundtrack by Geoff Zanelli. Of course I expect the soundtrack to Conan to be a lot different, but I wonder who will get the honor.

I actually liked Hitman also (surprisingly): mainly because the cinematography was great and the director's european touch made it better than it could have been in the hands of a lesser director. So, we should give him a shot. and he should hire the same DP from Hitman- seriously, the DP and director saved the movie.

they should try and get john cena, the marine sucked but i think he would be great in this role and maybe breathe new life into starting an acting career
but then again why remake conan? the first two were great, if you think filling arnolds shoes is hard try filling james earl jones role

Yes and it's been on imdb for years. I should know i've been contributing to that board since late 2006. Second it's not a remake. It's a reboot. There is a difference. It will not follow the story line of the first Conan movie at all because it's not the real story of Conan. Also, for the person who said the first movie wasn't successful. You should do a little more homework on your movies before offering incorrect statements.
