Jack Black Spills Year One Details

Back in early December we posted casting news about Christopher Mintz-Plasse, known as McLovin, being added to the ensemble line-up in the upcoming Judd Apatow produced comedy Year One. Details were being kept very quiet, and all that is known is that it's "a comedy set in biblical times." The rest of the cast includes Jack Black, Michael Cera, Oliver Platt, David Cross, Vinnie Jones, and Juno Temple, with Harold Ramis (Caddyshack, Groundhog Day, Analyze This) directing. While promoting the upcoming Be Kind Rewind, Jack Black spilled some actual details on the story, and it sounds great.
Thanks to SlashFilm for transcribing the interview from Collider. I'm excited for this purely based off of what Jack Black has to say and everyone involed.
"Year One is a biblical comedy. It's about the old testament. I'm just a dude wandering through biblical times. I'm not a famous character that you would have heard of before. Me and Michael Cera are just sort of wandering through, and you get to see all these old stories from the Torah, told through Agnostic, sort of, eyes."
Year One is currently set for release on June 19th, 2009. The script was written by Harold Ramis, Lee Eisenberg ("The Office"), and Gene Stupnitsky ("The Office"). Jack Black also confirms that the script was completed before the strike and that they're on track to head into production sometime soon and easily make the release date.
By the time this rolls around in 2009, it'll probably be the talk of the summer. Not only will it be quite controversial but I'm expecting it to be absolutely hilarious. I really think Apatow is going to redefine and reinvigorate almost every comedy genre. He stared with the sex comedy (40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Superbad), just did the musical comedy (Walk Hard), is moving to the stoner comedy next (The Pineapple Express), and will now tackle religious comedy come 2009.

I don't know what to think about this one yet. Apatow is funny but this and Pineapple Express don't sound at all appealing to me. However I will probably still go.
However I think Apatow's best film for me that he produced and I think wrote was 'The TV Set', it's absolutely hilarious.

I worked on this film as an extra for 4 weeks,it was a great experiance! Harold Ramis was so gracious and funny,he was great at directing the cast and crew!It was wonderful to see how a motion picture of this scale is made.Jack Black was so nice and considerate to everyone,he is truly a comic genious.All of the actors and the crew did a great job enduring long hours and cold mornings!The set was amazing!!I was transported !!It was a wonderful time of my life,and it will be THE FUNNIEST MOVIE OF 2009!!!The script is hysterical and the ad-libbing made me laugh till I hurt!!!Thanks to everyone-see you at the movies!!!!

I saw one of the first screenings for this movie!
Its great, loved the variety of characters and celebrities and loved the hundreads of one liners

I love the sound of this movie, I think Jack Black is truly a funny man, very talented.
I do wonder how middle america and the bible belt are going to react to this film, and it will be very interesting to see how Jewish people view it also. Jack Black is Jewish and obviously the first few books of the bible are considered holy by both religions. I hope most people will take as a good fun movie and not sacreligious at all. I personally don't believe it is.
