Director Mark Romanek Quits Wolf Man

Director Mark Romanek has dropped out of Universal's remake of The Wolf Man as of late Monday night, due to reported "creative differences". The film is a remake of the 1941 classic monster movie with Benicio Del Toro set to star. Romanek was a long-time music video director whose debut was One Hour Photo in 2002, a considerably odd choice to direct a monster movie anyway. Who might step in and fill his shoes?
The report from Variety states that "Romanek left the project in strong shape and that it expects to set another director quickly." Universal previously set a release date of February 13th, 2009, but there is no word on whether this will change or if the production will be delayed. Wolf Man is essentially about a man who becomes a werewolf once he travels to his homeland. Anthony Hopkins and Emily Blunt are also set to star in Wolf Man.
Our friends at Ain't It Cool News have heard from a source inside the studio that there are a couple of people in the running to replace Romanek. The first is Breck Eisner, of Sahara, and the second is Matt Reeves, of Cloverfield. However, it sounds like Reeves is too busy with a Cloverfield sequel and other jobs to actually do this. Until we hear confirmation from Universal regarding a replacement, take both of those names as rumors.
This Wolf Man adaptation was written by Andrew Kevin Walker and apparently has some frightening new twists from the original version from 1941. He has added several characters and plot points to take advantage of new visual effects technology and I'm sure Rick Baker, who is involved in the film, as well.

WOW. How amazing and original! Man, I was wondering when someone was going to come up with the brilliant idea of remaking a classic horror movie! It's about time!

Cool cast and always wanted to see a good werewolf movie that's scary. The only one that comes to mind that was semi-enjoyable in the last few years was, "Cursed" but only the unrated one!!!

I loved the original Wolfman when I first saw it when I was like 6 and fell in love, old school special effects ftw. As long as they don't touch the first Creature From the Black Lagoon I'm ok

Hmmmm….
Not only a Remake, but one with a really dodgy concept ….
Think I'll skip, wherefore lies the Originality ?
