Ken's Review: The Spiderwick Chronicles - A Fun Fantasy Filler

Ken's Review: The Spiderwick Chronicles - A Fun Fantasy Filler

When I look back at my younger years and the films I loved, they were all fantasy movies. Films like The Princess Bride, Willow, Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, Legend, The Secret of NIMH and The Neverending Story are what shaped my imagination. They filled my mind with wonder and gave me a sense of adventure. Sadly these great classics are now overlooked and I'm hard pressed to find any kids now who have seen most of them. They have to settle for new releases and whatever their parents will take them to. I'll admit I'm biased and always compare current fantasy to the classics I grew up with, but I'll also admit that lately these new ones haven't been half bad.

Shia LaBeouf Talks Transformers 2 - Says It's 'Massive'

Shia LaBeouf Talks Transformers 2

How coincidental is it that the week the writers strike ends is the same we week we get an overabundance of early buzz on Transformers 2. A few days ago Michael Bay was talking about how he had written most of the movie so that he could stay on time even though the strike was happening while also mentioning some more specifics on what we can (and can't) expect in the movie. Now today, Empire has an update from Shia LaBeouf on the second film. He says he has seen some of the pre-visualization that ILM has done and some of Bay's early work and he says that it is "massive".

Jaq's Review: Jumper - Don't Leap for Joy

Jaq's Review: Jumper - Don't Leap for Joy

The biggest problem with Doug Liman's new action film Jumper is that, well, it's boring. There's not enough action in it to keep the plot moving and not enough drama to really engage the viewer. Ultimately, it feels like an engine misfiring on three out of four cylinders – you can feel the power there, but it's just not getting through.

Sam Worthington Cast in Terminator 4 via James Cameron's Suggestion

Sam Worthington Cast in Terminator 4

With at least a year until its release, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins is slowly taking shape bit by bit, most recently with casting announcements. Last week we brought you the rumor that Josh Brolin might step in as the new Terminator, and before that, Christian Bale was announced as the new adult John Connor. The news is promising on its face, but there's been a lot of discussion whether the director McG can really do the iconic storyline justice, what with his extreme lack of cred in this space. I mean, Charlie's Angels… or "Fastlane"…? However, McG might just be getting the endorsement he needs with James Cameron, who directed the first two Terminator movies, influencing the selection of one of the new film's main characters: Sam Worthington as Marcus, a presently unknown character who will serve a primary role in the new trio of Terminator films.

Warner Bros. Developing Movie About the Enron Scandal - Conspiracy of Fools

Conspiracy of Fools

Warner Brothers is working on three high profile based-on-true-story movies: one about outed CIA agent Valerie Plame, another about poisoned ex-KGB agent Alexander Litvinenko, and finally one about the Enron scandal from 2001. Conspiracy of Fools is the movie that tells the story of the Enron scandal and it was just announced today that Robert Schwentke has been attached to direct. Leonardo DiCaprio is producing and possibly starring as well. Let's hope Warner Brothers knows how to pull off a quality drama based on real life occurrences, because all three of these sound fairly interesting.
