Independent Spirit Awards Winners!
February 23, 2008
by Alex Billington
The Independent Spirit Awards are an annual award given in the name of independent film, featuring those little indies which deserve the honor and recognition that they won't be receiving at the Oscars. The winners were announced today, a mere 24 hours before the Oscars, and deserve some extra special honor and recognition here on FS.net. All of the films listed below are some of the best you'll find all year, the winners being especially fantastic. Make sure you give some of these a chance, or if you already have, then make sure to tell your friends all about the winners listed below, because you won't want to miss them.
I haven't seen every one of these, but I've seen most (thanks to attending the Toronto Film Fest and a keen eye on the good indies that come my way). Winners are listed in BOLD below.
You'll notice the [IMDb] link next to each one. This is so you can explore and discover, because there is guaranteed to be a movie you've never heard of on this list.

Congrats to Juno! After this display, I'm really wondering whether Juno could be the surprise big winner at the Oscars. Same with The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. Will it creep up and take director and cinematography at the Oscars tomorrow, too? I certainly hope not, but we'll see!
