David Gordon Green Wants to Remake Dario Argento's Suspiria

Of all things that indie filmmaker David Gordon Green could direct next, he just happened to go with a remake of Dario Argento's 1977 horror classic Suspiria. Known most recently for directing the soon-to-be-released Snow Angels as well as the upcoming stoner comedy Pineapple Express, Green isn't exactly the kind of filmmaker that comes to mind when you think about remaking horror, and even he agrees: "No, it doesn't make a lick of sense." MTV chatted briefly with Green about Suspiria, who told them that he's already written a script and is hoping to direct it as soon as it gets the greenlight.
Although I'm not too familiar with Suspiria, to David Gordon Green, it's "a classic" and one of his all-time favorites. "…It's wicked. I love it, plot holes and everything," Green explains, going on to say that he "want[s] to be scared" and "want[s] to be afraid" when it comes to remaking it. The original film is about an American student who travels to Germany and discovers that the fancy ballet academy she attends is actually comprised of a "coven of witches bent on chaos and destruction." It could even be referred to as the predecessor to today's modern "torture porn", but wiser cinephiles would only call it classic 70's horror.
"It's an opportunity to take all artistic excellence and be inspired by what was a low budget Italian 70's gore movie. Where the art world meets the violent and supernatural," Green explains. It certainly sounds like this is a project that excites him, but after successfully tackling emotional drama (in Snow Angels), comedy (in Pineapple Express), and romance (in All the Real Girls), horror seems like the only place left for him to explore. His dream for this, though, is to put together something that everyone would end up experience. "I would love to get every geek that loves torture porn and every old lady in line to see Phantom of the Opera to come and have this insane experience."
While this doesn't exactly get me excited right off the bat, if there's anyone who could explore a new side of horror, it might be David Gordon Green. Usually when an incredibly talented filmmaker explores the horror genre for a one-time gig, it turns out great. I hope that's the case with Suspiria and I hope David Gordon Green really does get this remake off the ground.

I was just about to blast on how pissed I was to see another horror remake, and of a CLASSIC no less, but I have not seen this one, and after reading the amazing list of comments on IMDB regarding it.. I have to go find it and see if I can be behind this remake or not.
Knowing that Green is accepting of the holes in the plot is a concern, and I will be interested to watch the evolve and see if he will want to fill those in the remake, or let it stand on its own as a direct story remake.

Please for the love of GOD don't remake this film.
This IS a classic and, while a bit stinky of that 70s cheese, is really a pretty amazing horror flick.
Seriously, can't we start killing some of these unoriginal pricks who feel the need to remake everything???

while i also hate classic movie remakes i dont think you should be so quick to hate on this one. (#4)most remakes are so obviously made with big dollar signs in the producers/directors eyes, but it sounds like this guy actualy wants to make it as a way to show his love for the original. just like a singer might re-do an old song for sentimental reasons.
he seems to appreciate the movie and love its style and just wants to bring it to a new audience.
sometimes that can make all the difference between a money machine waste of film and a movie to wait in line for.
