Chris Bertolini's Battle: Los Angeles Picked Up by Sony

Given my appreciation for anything and everything science fiction, I thought it would be worth mentioning a new script that got picked up by Columbia Pictures / Sony today. It's called Battle: Los Angeles and was written by Chris Bertolini, who's only previous screenplay was The General's Daughter from 1999. The good thing is that Neal H. Moritz, who produced Click, Gridiron Gang, Evan Almighty, and I Am Legend, will be producing this. The story follows one Marine platoon's encounter in the battle against an alien invasion on the streets of Los Angeles.
Moritz expresses his enthusiasm: "I love the idea, and I love the script. I like it all. We are going to be in production within six months. What's attractive to me is that it's a huge event movie that can be done at a modest scale." The idea is for it to be something like Cloverfield, with a more minor character focus (but with an epic story). Whereas Cloverfield used point-of-view handheld cameras, Battle: Los Angeles will stick to traditional camerawork. While there is not much to this yet, something about it really intrigues me. I'm looking forward to seeing it come together and will definitely be keeping an eye on it!
