Lakeview Terrace Trailer with Sam Jackson
April 11, 2008

by Alex Billington
After destroying Nic Cage's career in The Wicker Man in 2006, filmmaker Neil LaBute is bringing us yet another depressing look at society. Titled Lakeview Terrace, the movie stars Samuel L. Jackson and Patrick Wilson as feuding neighbors in an upscale California neighborhood. Wilson plays the husband in a newly wed interracial marriage and Jackson plays a stern, single father, who has appointed himself the watchdog of the neighborhood. His nightly foot patrols and overly watchful eyes bring comfort to some, but he becomes increasingly harassing to the newlyweds. These persistent intrusions into their lives ultimately turn tragic when the couple decides to fight back.
This looks like nothing more than a mediocre movie made by mediocre writers and a bad director. I wish I could say more, but that's my complete impression from this trailer.

Lakeview Terrace is directed by Neil LaBute, of In the Company of Men, Nurse Betty, The Shape of Things, and 2006's The Wicker Man previously. The script was written by David Loughery (Dreamscape, Star Trek V, The Three Musketeers, Money Train) and Howard Korder (Stealing Sinatra). Lakeview Terrace currently arrives in theaters on September 19th.

Doesn't look too horrible and Samual L. Jackson can play one mean SOB. Jackson being a cop does put an interesting wrinkle on the subject because who do you go to in that instance? The common perception is that cops stick together so the homeowners are screwed.

Hey this looks cool and pretty intense, there are cops that think they can do whatever they want and there are defiantly bad cops so you put to the two together and this movie seems pretty damn good.

i do want to see this film, but i will say this. lakeview terrace is FAR from 'upscale.' it's pretty much the ghetto where the bloods hang out in the san fernando valley.

I think it looks pretty interesting, and it's on my wait and see list (along with Ironman). As far as saying Nic Cage had his career destroyed by the talented LaBute, I'm going out on a limb here by presuming you've not seen any of Cage's films beyond a few. He did an excellent job of destroying them on his own, with a penchant for sticking his fingers in the screenwriter's arena and throwing around his producer's weight on his films. Nic, give it up; you can't act.

Obviously, Alex Billington (movie critic) doesn't know a good movie when he sees one.
This movie looks awesome. Samuel L. Jackson is perfectly cast for this role. I saw the trailer for this movie, earlier today at the theater. Then researched the movie at home. I can't wait to see it.
And it will definitely be a "keeper" for our collection, once it comes out on DVD.

An interracial spin on the Kurt Russell flick "Unlawful Entry", where Ray Liotta was the ruthless cop much like Sam Jackson's role. And produced by Will Smith's company, Overbrook. This will definitely be a killer Friday night rental!!
