Zack Snyder Directing Animated Guardians of Ga'Hoole

We're still 11 months away from having our minds blown by Zack Snyder's adaptation of Watchmen, but that doesn't mean Snyder can't continue line-up other projects in the meantime. Zack has just signed on to direct an adaptation of a series of children's books called "Guardians of Ga'Hoole" as an animated movie. The intention of the studio, which is yet again Warner Brothers, is to develop the project at Animal Logic - the same animation company that made Happy Feet. The studio has even put the film on the fast track and is pushing for it to be ready by 2009 or 2010. Unless something else comes up, it sounds like this is Snyder's next movie after Watchmen.
The fourteen books in the New York Times bestselling series were written by Kathryn Lasky; a total of 25 books are planed with the fifteenth due out on bookshelves this fall. The books are set in the Forest of Tyto where Barn Owls live in peace until their kingdom is threatened by an evil that could destroy their home. The script for the adaptation was written by John Orloff ("Band of Brothers", A Mighty Heart) and John Collee (Master and Commander, Happy Feet). These two seem like quite prominent writers for an animated children's movie - but maybe that's a good thing?
Deep in the Forest of Tyto the adventure takes wing! Soren is born in a forest kingdom where Barn Owls have lived in peace for eons. But evil now lurks in the owl world, an evil that will shatter Tyto's peace and change Soren's life forever. In the first four books of this popular series Soren and his band make their way to the Great Ga'Hoole Tree where they will join with like-minded owls - honest, brave, wise and true - to boldly face danger and be tested in ways they never imagined. You can pick up all of the books on Amazon.com.
I'm typically excited for anything Zack Snyder does, and so will all of you be when you eventually see Watchmen, but this one I'm just not sure. I'm a bit nervous that this is just a side project and nothing unique. An animated movie about owls based on children's books? Somehow I can't get excited for this adaptation but maybe I'm wrong - we'll have to see how it comes together and what Snyder is planning to do with it. For now, I'll remain confident that anything Snyder touches will turn out impressive.

Very disappointed. Snyder's one of the most talented young directors in Hollywood, and he's signed on to direct another film in the "cash in on Harry Potter" craze?
For shame.

Um john no i have read the guardians of ga'hoole books and they are nothing like harry potter cuz i have read those too so dont say anything bad about this movie until it comes out unless you have read the books which it seems like you havent! But anyways this should be a good movie if they stick to the great story line!

Hey! It's me again. I came to check comments, and jelwz, you are right! Don't say anything bad yet because the movie hasn't come out, john! Plus, how can wizards and witches relate to heroic owls without any magic?! =)
