Get Smart's Shoe Phone Video Contest
April 15, 2008
by Alex Billington
One of this summer's big upcoming comedies is Get Smart - I'm sure you all know about it. A new contest has just launched on YouTube called Shoe Phones Across America! People around the country are passing funny messages along, just like Maxwell Smart, using their favorite footwear. All you need to do is make a 15 second video of yourself answering your own shoe phone and post it on YouTube - that's it! If you're looking forward to Get Smart, and I honestly am, then make sure you leave a Shoe Phone message!
Just hit the link below to head to the YouTube page to hear the instructions and submit your video.
If you're unfamiliar with the Shoe Phone concept, one of Maxwell Smart's (aka Agent 86) greatest gadgets is his phone… in his shoe. In the original show, Smart had a built in rotary-dial telephone in his shoe that he would use to contact CONTROL. The best part - not only would it actually ring, but it required a dime to place a call. You can bet we'll see plenty of the Shoe Phone in this new Get Smart. Watch the latest trailer here.
Get Smart is directed by comedic mastermind Pete Segal, who previously directed Naked Gun 33 1/3, Tommy Boy, Anger Management and 50 First Dates. The script was writen by Tom J. Astle (Failure to Launch) and Matt Ember (Failure to Launch). The movie is based on the classic 1960's TV show created by Mel Brooks. Get Smart hits theaters everywhere this summer on June 20th.

You're "honestly" looking forward to every release the unit publicists tell you to look forward to. "Comedic Mastermind?" Your writing smacks of a copywriter…

I am actually really excited for this film. It has a wide appeal and I think this could be one of the few Spy comedies and if you let me say "spoofs" that will be a big hit.

Is this really possible? Frankly speaking, I can not accept this. We will talk to each other on a smart shoe phone. What will be the image? This contest itself is special and creative actually, but I need more time…to think it over.
