Capcom's Clock Tower Being Adapted Next

Yet another Capcom game is being adapted - this time it's Clock Tower. The Weinstein Company and Senator Entertainment are producing the film which will be directed by Martin Weisz, of Grimm Love and The Hills Have Eyes 2, with a script by Eric Poppen of Borderland. The game was first released in 1995 and has had three follow-up sequels, the most recent of which was Clock Tower 3 in 2004. The gameplay surrounds a female character who has no weapons and must use her surroundings to hide and escape while solving puzzles and following the twisting storyline. Sounds like another video game flop in the making - when will this stop?!

The big screen adaptation of Clock Tower will feature elements from all of the Clock Tower games, but the story will be based primarily off of the storyline in Clock Tower 2: The Struggle Within. In it, Alyssa finds herself locked up in a psychiatric hospital as she tries to escape the curse that has haunted her family for generations. The game received rather mediocre reviews and currently has a 49 on Metacritic, although one review did say that it was "eerily successful at creating a creepy, spine tingling atmosphere."

There really isn't anything that sounds good about this. I guess the game has a creepy premise, but Martin Weisz directing ruins all hopes for a good movie. I really don't know why they keep making movies like this when they know they'll turn out bad. Why doesn't Capcom just hold onto the rights until after Prince of Persia? I'm hoping that Persia finally shows Hollywood how good video game adaptations can be and starts a new revolution. Then it would be best for Capcom to distribute the rights to their games to get made by good filmmakers.

so someones going to be going through a hospital the whole movie hiding and solving puzzles and they cant use weapons, this is going to be box office gold (kidding obviously)

if they want a great capcom game, go with super ghouls n ghosts, excellent game

While I don't know if Persia is the best chance, I too hope for a revolution. Any move that can break us out of the mould, the horrible standards video game movies have set, will be greatly appreciated for years to come.
