Must Watch: Second Full Trailer for The Dark Knight!
May 4, 2008

by Alex Billington
A second full-length theatrical trailer for The Dark Knight has finally debuted online. This is the same version that was bootlegged online and shown as part of last week's Joker trailer hunt. This trailer is absolutely perfect - it shows the perfect amount of new footage to tease us beyond the first trailer and yet doesn't show us too much so as to prevent the movie from being ruined in July. I know I'm not the only one incredibly excited for The Dark Knight and I know that just about everyone is looking forward to one hell of a phenomenal theatrical experience this July. I don't know how there is any way Christopher Nolan could let us down at this point, but I'll continue to hold my breath. Without any further delay, it's time to enjoy this new trailer as we count down the days to July 18th!
Watch the new theatrical trailer for The Dark Knight:

The Dark Knight is directed by phenomenal filmmaker Christopher Nolan (Memento, Batman Begins, The Prestige) and co-written by Nolan, his brother Jonathan Nolan (The Prestige), and David S. Goyer (Blade, Batman Begins). Batman is part of the DC Comics universe of legendary characters. The Dark Knight will hit theaters worldwide on July 18th this summer. I love this trailer. The pitch of The Joker is perfect. The way he tells jokes while speaking is very well done. The Dark Knight looks as though it will be better than Batman Begins and all the Batmen before it.

Sorry. Forgot to say this above. I wish Ledger was alive to enjoy the fame (and most-likely, the nominations) he will receive from his performance.

i so hate how they made the joker look. it's nothing like the original one. and it's not just the look. maybe another villein would have been more appropriate.
besides that, it really looks excelent. can't wait for the movie.

Am I the only person who had this trailer attached to IRON MAN or what?
p.s. Is anyone's local SIX FLAGS building a DARK KNIGHT rollercoaster??? I live near the one in Jackson and it opens in 10 days (so psyched!)

So does that make Mark Hamill the Holy Spirit?
(For anyone who doesn't get the reference, Mark Hamill (yes, Luke Skywalker) was the voice of the Joker in the 'Batman' animated series in the early 90s.)

I agree with Joel about that being two face. When I saw the trailer attached to Iron man I noticed the charred flesh and burnt suit. Plus it comes after his left side of his face is laying in fuel. Now Nolan needs to keep the rest of face under wraps, but I suspect there will be a poster with it in full glory.

Fucking Remarkable! I had seen the bootleg several times, but when it came on before Iron Man it became a whole new level of fantastic. Good call on the two face shot, I did not even notice him holding the gun, which pretty much gives it away as not many DA's are packing, I think we will get one confrontation with two face( with batman, or Gotham) to set up the next film and continue Nolan's brilliant breaking of the mold. The wait is becoming a bit physically painful at this point, but I am very excited for Speed Racer and Redbelt next weekend, love the mamet.

It appears I was wrong in my previous post, any one avoiding all spoilers should not go read the LA times interview of Eckhart and Nolan or my next line, but every one else should. It appears that Two Face might be a big part of this film in more ways than one. Gangsta!

this trailer gave away a lot, such as making of two face but it was worth it, im just wondering if ledger gets to renew the "ever dance with the devil" line, ive kindve always felt that line defined batman
as for the rollercoaster, they were going to make one at the six flags in mass but they started building before pulling the permit and they made them take it down and it got canceled

Fantastic trailer, though it should have ended just after Batman flies past the building and The Dark Knight title comes up with that music. The "Lamborghini" scene was just cheese and kinda ruined the vibe of the trailer.

They didn't show too much Batman in the trailer did they? I know everyone's going bananas for the Joker and Ledger has obviously done a chilling performance but I hope the character doesn't overshadow the protagonist as he did in Burton's original.

I'm so sick of all you gay-for-Ledger types going on about this role immortalizing him, and the 'inevitable' nominations.
In terms of acting, Ledger will not be remembered for this movie. And he's certainly not going to be nominated for any major acting awards for this role in a silly little comic-book movie.
Ledger was an okay actor. Not great. And certainly not as good as Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Aaron Eckhart, or Morgan Freeman. He wasn't even within sight of their ballpark.
I'm looking forward to this movie too, but come on guys-
Your life is not going to fall to pieces if you admit that TDK is merely going to fall near that broad middle-ground between terrible and Great.

That makes no sense. Batman begins was a great movie that revitalized the franchise. Granted we haven't seen the movie yet, but this movie looks like it could surpass that. This could be the best comic book adaptation yet. As for Heath Ledger he may not have picked the best movies at the beginning of his career however he was an academy award nominee and was amazing in Monster's Ball. So we don't know if he'll get an academy award nomination for this movie but it doesn't mean he won't be great.

M., #40
Ledger being nominated for this role is definitely in the same league as Depp being nominated for Jack Sparrow (which he was) whether you think that's ridiculous or not. #42 said it: Ledger was a great talent with untapped potential as subtle as his chops were prior to the Joker character.
Frame on May 4, 2008

M, Heath Ledger was a rare and remarkable talent who respected film critics and fans likened to a young Marlon Brando. His recent performances were masterful, all it took was an opportunity. Granted he might not receive nominations for this film bc it is a summer blockbuster, but Batman Begins received better reviews than the departed( best picture winner). He does clearly get some sympathy respect as well, but it is clear that the world is missing a brilliant actor with his passing. Ang Lee, Christopher Nolan, Terry Gilliam, Jack Nicholoson, Daniel Day Lewis, and many more agree. and then there is you, a guy using the world tool past 3rd grade. Brilliant fucking film on the way, just above great.
Tyler on May 4, 2008

Dear Tyler,
Don't be such a tool. I liked BEGINS too, but it wasn't a great movie. It doesn't approach the realm of Art. It's no DEPARTED. Heck, it might not even be as good as INSOMNIA (but I'll be kind and say it's Nolan's third best film.) MOST of the respect Ledger gets is sympathy respect. There's no doubt he had some talent and potential, but he was neither rare, nor remarkable as an actor.
Frame, Ledger-Depp is a false analogy. Depp was nominated for an Oscar after, like, FIFTEEN years of good performances. Almost all of which were better than any of Heath Ledger's. [Including MONSTER'S BALL and BROKEBACK, which were basically the same performance- pull in your lower lip, look dour, hunch, and mumble, mumble, mumble.]
Also, I forget Gary Oldman on my list of BATMAN actors who Ledger could only dream of approaching in quality. Heck, I'll even throw Maggie Gyllenhall in there too. ["even"? More like especially. She's great.]
M. on May 5, 2008
47
Dear M.
Ledger's joker was already getting a lot of buzz before he died. In fact the only way Ledger's death is doing something for Nolan's batman is that it's going to bring non-batman fans into theaters. I'm not sure he's going to get a nomination but Depp was nominated for pirates because he was brilliant in it, he alone carried that movie. 15 years of good performances and not even a nom and he gets it playin a drunk pirate? come on, what about Blow? or even Donnie Brasco?
And Batman begins IS a great movie, in it's genre it is considered to be one of the best. And of course Gary Oldman is bigger than ledger, he's like 50 for crying out loud! where was Goldman when he was 28?
Heath Ledger's Joker WILL be remembered , just like Jack Nicholson's is. Nomination or not, you my friend are going to keep it shut when this movie comes out!

M.
Batman Begins was a great movie. Batman Begins did something that no other comic book/superhero movie did before it. It took the idea of a superhero and made it realisitic, that a superhero could exist today in this day and age if they had the resources. That in itself made the movie so incredible.

M,
I will agree with you that the departed was a better film than Batman Begins, but it had more flaws as well, it just carried them well. Obviously I am not suggesting that Ledger was playing on the level of Johnny Depp and Gary Oldman, but in relative comparison he was. Monster's Ball and Brokeback Mountain were very similar yes, but the differences are what exhibit his greatness as an actor. They were under the surface , and you had to sense the difference in the characters pain. That is a difficult performance master. Philip Seymour Hoffman won that Oscar because he had earned it over time, but Capote was an easier play than Ennis Del Mar( a character brought to life from a few pages of a short story). The Joker shows us how far Ledger would have truly been able to go. James Dean made 3 brilliant films, but was immortalized by his looks and behavior. Ledger won't be remembered like that because he today is a different era, but as far as acting goes he should. This is a better discussion to have post dark knight, after we have seen what he has really done with the character, but his recent performances have been brilliant, u obviously know enough about films to see that.

I cannot wait for this movie any longer, it looks totally original. I'm not sure how anyone can compare it to anything else. It seems so in a league of it's own, but definitely in a good way. Ledger won't need an award to be commemorated. Like it's been mentioned, it's the performance, not necessarily the actor. I'm a huge Ledger fan, so don't take my opinions the wrong way, but he was such a risky actor. How many straight actors would have pulled off brokeback (performance and all the criticism) like he did.
The trailer was phenomenal, I can't wait to see Eckhart on screen like this. This is going to be a once in a lifetime movie, don't you think?!

Yeah, I too noticed that reference to "Two Face", plus I heard'em say "Harvey Dent" and from what I remember from watching the animated version, "Harvey" was "Two Face's" real name, so I figured that was him and that he'd become two face either late in this movie, or he'd be the main vilain in the next sequel….but yeah, good job capturing that pic Joel!!!

Has anyone noticed Heath Ledger's constant licking of his lips? I feel that's something he definitely worked into the character of the Joker and that brings a very 'scummy' quality to him. Again, only based on the footage provided. Thoughts? Anyone else notice that? Is it something that has to do with the character's sliced up face?
