So Indiana Jones is Even 'Gramps' in the Movie, Too!

As we near the May 22nd release of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the marketing saturation is beginning to pick up and the hype continues to build. I know each and every day I get more and more excited. I'm hosting my own Indiana Jones marathon this week and will be going all out in the next few weeks in preparation for Indy's triumphant return. One aspect that so many people can't get off of their minds is how old Harrison Ford looks. He's now 65, but that doesn't mean he still can't kick ass. I stumbled across this brand new TV spot this morning and discovered that even in the movie, Shia LaBeouf calls him "gramps!" I've heard other people call him that on their own, but apparently it's actually a joke in the movie, too! Enjoy the new TV spot below.
I don't really have a problem with this, and if anything, it's fun to see that the movie itself is able to make fun of Indy's age. I know a concern I've heard from a few people is that they're unsure of how capable Indiana Jones will be and if his age will thus hurt the film. Now with this line out there, I guess we can see that they acknowledge his age and probably make fun of it quite a bit. He is not the same young Indy that he was before and Spielberg and company definitely know that.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is directed by the legendary Steven Spielberg with a story by George Lucas and screenplay by David Koepp (Mission: Impossible, Spider-Man, War of the Worlds). The film is the fourth in the Indiana Jones series and takes place in the 1950s, around 20 years after Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull arrives in theaters this summer on May 22nd!

I'd prefer old actors anyday of the week than this new generation of kids and wanna be director-actors-etc.
Thank lord we still have Willis, Stallone, Ford, ETC!!!

Having watched TOD over the weekend–
Indy was never young, that was part of the character's beauty. The world-weariness.
I don't see why this is such a big deal. Roger was supposed to be in his early or mid-sixties in lethal weapon 3 (though he was de-aged for #4)

I think it would be impossible for the film to be made 20 years after the last one without acknowleging the character's age. Better to make fun of yourself before the critics get a shot.

Self examination leads to greatness… Someone else said it. I am glad that they are poking fun at themselves, they always have. I am excited for the movie, this is in the top 5 of my can't wait list.

I'm with you REAL6! I celebrate the return of McClane, Rambo, and Indiana! I remember Stallone getting flack for his age when "Rocky Balboa" came out! Since then, it's dwindled significantly. So freakin happy they're back for another round!
