The Knights Templar? Vampires? Timur Bekmambetov? I'm In!

After bringing us both Night Watch and Day Watch and now debuting Wanted this June, Timur Bekmambetov will be producing a Middle Ages vampire horror flick next. Titled The Knights Templar, the film puts a horror spin on the famed organization of fighters from the Middle Ages, with the Knights Templar, fresh from the Crusades, forced to fend off an invading vampire army set on destroying the Holy Grail. Universal picked up the film as a spec script from newcomers Adam Torchia, as his first feature film, and Justin Stanley, of The Shadow Men and Beneath Loch Ness. The catch - Timur isn't directing, only producing, but this was way too cool of a concept to pass up as news.
Timur hasn't really produced much besides a movie called The Irony of Fate 2. Given he's such a unique filmmaker with a strong visual style, his involvement will probably be similar to that of Guillermo del Toro when he produces. Del Toro produced The Orphanage last year - a film that seem inspired quite a bit by Guillermo's vision. It's undeniable that Timur's emphasis will end up in The Knights Templar anyway - and that's what still has me excited despite he won't be directing. An actual director has not been announced for the project yet. I truly hope the entire story in this movie is as intriguing as the pitch to begin with, or else all of this hype will have been for nothing! Good luck Timur - don't let me down with this one!

I think the author needs to keep his opinions to himself. I think MM is a fine actor and has qualities of a Captain America! Looking forward to this, with my sons at my heals.

This is a direct rip off of Dracula vs. King Arthur and the screenwriters should be ashamed of themselves. Seriously. In Dracula vs. King Arthur Dracula raises a vampire army to go after King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Arthur brings forth the Holy Grail to help defeat the menace. Sheez. Someone should speak up on this.

Actually Phillip John, Dracula vs. King Arthur seems to have more in common with "Dracula Year Zero", which has Alex Pryoas (sp?) set to direct.
From what I understand, after reading around on various articles on this, this project was developed a few years back, around 2002-2003 (as one of the original writers who retains credit passed away), which pre-dates the publication of Dracula vs. King Arthur which was published in 2005.

Hey guys, big fan of Dracula vs. King Arthur. I'm pretty sure the Beranek boys created the concept back in 2000. That predates all of this.
