John Waters is Back - Directing Fruitcake with Johnny Knoxville!

Legendary quirky director John Waters is returning to the director's chair! Waters hasn't directed a film since 2004's NC-17 rated A Dirty Shame, but will be returning this year with a film called Fruitcake. Get this - not only does it have a wacky concept (see below), but it's Christmas children's movie! Both Johnny Knoxville and Parker Posey have joined the cast, but not too much else has been revealed. While I'm not a closet John Waters fan by any means, it is actually intriguing to see him return… I think? I've got to ask - is he still a good director or did he just have a few good one-timers and that's it? Because I think you need to hear the concept for this new Fruitcake movie and decide for yourself what to make of it.
Fruitcake centers on the title character, a boy named after his favorite dessert. He runs away from home during the holidays after he and his parents are caught shoplifting meat, then meets up with a runaway girl raised by two gay men who is searching for her birth mother. Is that not one of the oddest ideas you've ever heard? But then again, this is John Waters, and like Michel Gondry of Science of Sleep before him, concepts this weird are a perfect fit for him.
I'm really not going to claim this is anything worthwhile until we get a trailer and hear more, but both Johnny Knoxville and Parker Posey are solid middleground actors who can give a servicable performance when in the right roles. And as for John Waters, well, what more can I say about him? Anyone out there looking forward to seeing what Waters will whip up in a Christmas children's movie?

Alex i say again. You need to watch some of his older stuff.
Pink Flamingos, Cry Baby(Johnny Depp), and the original Hairspray.

I think this sounds interesting. I liked Pecker, I thought it was odd but quirky. I think Cry Baby was a great movie but this cast seems perfect for Waters' style of humor.

I also read this in Hollywood Reporter's entertainment news section…this movie does seem odd, but I actually think Johnny Knoxville can do a decent acting role (a lot of people think he's automatically the worst actor of all time because of Jackass). He apparently went to school for acting before his Jackass days actually.
