V for Vendetta Director, James McTeigue, Takes on Revelation

Seasoned sci-fi'er and upcoming director James McTeigue has signed on to helm a new thriller, titled Revelation. Judging from his directorial debut, V for Vendetta, and his involvement with the Matrix trilogy and last year's The Invasion, I have to say this is pretty happy news for a Friday. V for Vendetta is actually one of my all-time favorite films, so I'm excited at the prospect of such sensibilities carrying over. I'd be through the roof, however, if Hugo Weaving was involved.
The screenplay for the film is being handled by the lesser-known John Salvati (upcoming biopic Dali and I) and surrounds a female journalist who investigates a number of strange murders and learns that all those who died were undergoing treatment by an organization linked to the investigation of alien abductions. That definitely sounds pretty cool. There's no indication yet of what direction the film might go – rich, dark creatures and mystery, or more investigative, government cover-up.
McTeigue will start production on Revelation following the completion of Ninja Assassin for which he's collaborating again with The Wachowski Brothers. But let's not hold that against him, considering the Brothers latest effort, Speed Racer. Sorry Alex! So, given McTeigue's previous work, how do you think this plot will pan out? And who might play the heroine?

I dunno, it sounds a bit like warmed-over X-Files to me. (X-Files always bored me, I'm afraid, though I love a lot of scifi and dystopia fiction.) But the Korean film Save the Green Planet explored similar territory and did a lot of fun, inventive genre-subverting things with it. McTeigue's lack of involvement in Speed Racer certainly speaks in his favor, and Hugo Weaving's involvement in anything would force me to take it seriously–phoned in voiceovers for Michael Bay films excepted, of course. He's pretty booked for the rest of the year, though, and who knows if there's a good role in this project for him. For the lead, I would certainly hope they chose an actress who could credibly play a journalist rather than a bimbo who looks pretty when she screams. A lot of recent films have been undermined by the casting of female leads who sell magazines but can't act.
