First Look: Adrien Brody in Dario Argento's Giallo

Renowned Italian horror filmmaker, Dario Argento, has officially started production on his next project - Giallo. And thanks to STYD, we have a first look at some of the film's leads, Adrien Brody and creepy exotic, Emmanuelle Seigner (The Ninth Gate). For those of us that have an acquaintance to Italian culture that extends beyond food, you know that "giallo" actually means "yellow", which is the both the name of the film's killer and the genre of Italian literature that Argento has so skillfully brought to the screen over many, many years — the name is derived from the original stories' yellow paperbacks. But enough history, here's the eye-candy.

Last we saw Brody was sans goattee and donning head bandages in Wes Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited. While that film was certainly cool in its own right, I prefer the Academy Award-winning actor in thrillers like The Village or The Jacket. Of course, he didn't win the award for those films, but his dramatic depth transfers really well to scary genres. In Giallo, Brody plays an Italian investigator that pairs up with Seigner's character in search of the latter's missing sister, who has been abducted by a serial killer known as Yellow. And no, this isn't the same lemon-colored villain from Sin City.
Rumor had it that Ray Liotta was to be cast in Brody's roll. If that had actually happened, my interest in the film would probably be much less. Liotta has an interesting appeal, sure, but after seeing him in Revolver, for instance, I find it hard to take him seriously nowadays. As for Seigner, I can't say I've followed much of her work as of late, but she was pretty devilish in Ninth Gate. No update on who will play Yellow, after it was previously announced that indie regular Vincent Gallo had been cast but is no longer with the project.
With so much buying and selling of film happening around Cannes right now and Brody serving as executive producer, I think we might start to hear more about Argento's latest.

Kevin, if you are interested in seeing more of Seigner's work, check out "Bitter Moon" by Roman Polanski. - Excellent adult drama.

Actually it was Owen Wilson's character who wore the bandages in Darjeeling Limited.
I am a lot more excited to see Adrian Brody in Rian Johnson's upcoming follow up to "Brick", "The Brother's Bloom". It's a con-man/comedy with Mark Ruffalo and Rachel Weisz.

Should we expect a huge amount of blood in this movie?
I personally dont like the pair they chose. Brody is rockin, always loved to see him on the screen, from The Pianist to Summer of Sam, but to be cast in this role just don't seem to be a good fit for him.
As for Seigner, she is not my cup of tea, I really REALLY didn't enjoy The Ninth Gate. I thought it was stale and dragged myself to the crapfest ending.
Sorry if I'm hurting some feelings but come on! The Ninth Gate??? The Ninth Gate sucked BIG TIME!
