Fox Searchlight's First Poster for Chuck Palahniuk's Choke!

The first teaser poster for the feature film adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk's book Choke has officially debuted. Fox Searchlight picked up the film at Sundance earlier this year and is distributing it this fall. To give you a bit of explanation as to the story and why this poster is as, I suppose, quirky as it is, let me introduce you to Victor Mancini. Victor is a sex-addicted, med-school dropout who works as a "historical reenactor" at a Colonial Williamsburg theme park and makes money by pretending to choke in restaurants and letting innocent bystanders save him. That pretty much sets up the story and it just gets even crazier from there. Both Ken and I saw the film at various fests and each liked it quite a bit. However, I'll let this poster do the talking - although it's not much, it definitely does say a lot.
You can check out my 7.5 out of 10 review from Sundance as well as Ken's 7.5 out of 10 review from SXSW. Here's some of what I had to say about Choke: "Overall this is certainly a film to see that I know will be a guaranteed favorite for many people, but for me, it's not on the top of my list. Clark Gregg does a great job interpreting and adapting Palahniuk's work, but I'll say it again, this is no Fight Club."
Victor Mancini (Sam Rockwell), a sex-addicted med-school dropout, who keeps his increasingly deranged mother, Ida (Anjelica Huston), in an expensive private medical hospital by working days as a historical reenactor at a Colonial Williamsburg theme park. At night Victor runs a scam by deliberately choking in upscale restaurants to form parasitic relationships with the wealthy patrons who "save" him. When, in a rare lucid movement, Ida reveals that she has withheld the shocking truth of his father’s identity, Victor enlists the aid of his best friend, Denny (Brad William Henke) and his mother’s beautiful attending physician, Dr. Paige Marshall (Kelly Macdonald), to solve the mystery before the truth of his possibly divine parentage is lost forever. The film is adapted from the best-selling, critically acclaimed novel by Chuck Palahniuk.
Choke is both written and directed by first-time filmmaker and actor Clark Gregg. The film is an adaption of Fight Club writer Chuck Palahniuk's novel of the same name. Choke premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January and was bought by Fox Searchlight for around $1 million. The film currently arrives in theaters starting on September 26th this year.

Palahniuk's name itself will sell this.
Guy's the goddamned Iggy Pop of novelists.

I wish people would stop bringing up Fight Club in their reviews for this film. Yeah, they're written by the same author but that's it. Totally different stories and different filmmakers. They shouldn't even be compared, but unfortunately they will be.

I was just going to say, I wasn't talking about your post. I was referring to Alex. I'm just saying that unfortunately this movie will get comparisons to Fight Club and I don't think that's fair. It should be judged on its own merits.

That poster is really really similar to another one though. Maybe Eating Raul? I can't remember. But it's ringing some sort of way back bell.
