Michael Bay and Hasbro Go Too Far - A Ouija Board Movie!

I can understand Transformers. And I can understand G.I. Joe. But Hasbro might just be getting out of control with this latest news. Apparently Michael Bay's production company, Platinum Dunes, is set to make a movie based on the spooky Ouija board game. WTF? Although I suppose some see this as a positive, the film will not take on a "Jumanji-like approach." Obviously, that makes sense considering Platinum Dunes' track record in horror remakes (e.g. Amityville Horror, The Hitcher, Friday the 13th); but I have to admit, Jumanji wasn't half-bad, so taking it in that direction might be more encouraging. Has Habro gone too far this time with a Ouija board movie?!
Some readers may not even recall the popular game, which originally came out in 1966. For those that don't, here's a quick recap: players try to contact spirits/ghosts by placing their fingers on a planchette that mysteriously moves around the board indicating letters and symbols, which theoretically spell out messages from the beyond. I remember having one growing up, but always quickly grew tired of it; unless, of course, I was using it to freak out a friend or sibling.
Considering the game's supernatural angle, I suppose there is some meat here to create a horror movie. But not much. Movies I've seen as of late based on evil games (like that awful Stay Alive movie) always seem to have the same formula: 1) kids discover the game; 2) they discover that it kills; and 3) they continue to use the game in the process of trying to understand how to stop it, killing off everyone in the group except two (because you can't just leave one person). I imagine we can expect something like that here. No writer has been announced, nor a director. We do know that Platinum Dune regulars Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller will produce.
Break out your old Ouija board if you have it and ask if this movie is going to suck!

Hasbro's Marvel-like approach to their "intellectual" property is, obviously, stupid. But if PD makes this PG-13, it's guaranteed some money, right?

The boards "originally" went into production for the wide market in 1901, by William Fuld who called them Ouija boards. There have been several variations of the mystical table & planchette dating back to 540 BC.
Parker Brothers bought the franchise from William Fulds Estate in 1966. I hate to be a pain in the ass, but come on, do a little research.
Christ I hope at least Michael Bay's company has done theirs.

Ridley Scott is already working on developing a Monopoly movie. It's referenced in this article posted on IGN which reports on Hasbro optioning out some of their board games for possible movies. Included in the article are references to other games besides Ouija, including some that people have mentioned in their comments above. This includes Candyland, Chutes & Ladders, and a new movie based on Clue.

Hmm this is so odd but hasn't this been a rumour for years? I wonder what kind of direction this would go in. I could be like most everyone else and hate on the idea but years ago I remember thinking how Pirates of the Carribbean would flop so I'll keep my mouth shut for now.
