Bryce Dallas Howard Joins Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins
June 2, 2008
by Alex Billington
A brief bit of casting news this morning to whet your appetite for the week to come. Bryce Dallas Howard is in final negotiations to join the cast of Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. Howard will replace the previously announced Charlotte Gainsbourg as Kate Connor, the wife of John Connor, played by Christian Bale. She joins alongside of Sam Worthington, Anton Yelchin, and Moon Bloodgood. Gainsbourg left the project because of scheduling conflicts with another film, given production on Terminator 4 is already underway in Albuquerque, New Mexico. If I had to make a statement regarding this casting change, I would say I'm actually more excited to see Bryce Dallas Howard in the role instead.
The cast for Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins seems to grow every single week. I think Howard is a much better choice than Gainsbourg, only because she seems much more of an appropriate fit. She's always great in all of M. Night Shyamalan's movies and usually delivers incredible performances, so I'm confident in Howard. And considering she's replacing the role that Claire Danes had in Terminator 3, I just feel like she's much more fit for Kate Connor than the French Gainsbourg. We'll see how she turns out in due time, but so far I really like this casting choice.
In the highly anticipated new installment of The Terminator film franchise, set in post-apocalyptic 2018, Christian Bale stars as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet’s operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.
Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, directed by McG of Charlie's Angels and We Are Marshall, will arrive in theaters next summer on May 22nd, 2009. Stay tuned for more!

Charlotte Gainesbourg is great - but a bit too classy for this role, perhaps.
I loved her in Science of Sleep.
Bryce just kind of weirds me out, for some reason. And I'm normally really into redheads.
Maybe I just can't help but think of her dad & his squeaky clean "Opie" or "Richie" image.
Maybe starring against Christian Bale will bring something out of her we've never seen.
Here's hoping, at least!

no beef with Bryce but i just hate the character of Kate Connor, for the series being about John Connor it sure doesn't act like it, always relying back on a female lead.
if they killed off Sarah off screen at least leave her dead don't replace her.
